-Kwabena Agyapong Reveals
Kwabena Agyapong, one of the candidates canvassing for the General Secretary position of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has taken the political dog fighting onto the corridors of his main contender, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, otherwise known as ‘Sir John’.
He is accused him of having an insatiable desire to hurl insults at ex-President John Agyekum Kufour, despite once appointing him as Deputy Chief Executive of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC).
One of the main faces of the Kwabena Agyapong for Secretary Campaign, Davis Opoku Ansah, also known as OPK, took to his social media platform Facebook to cast innuendos at his General Secretary for injuring the person of ex-President Kufuor on his campaign trips across the country.
Davis Opoku Ansah, is also the Director of Operations for the cash strapped Alliance For Accountable Governance (AFAG)
He wrote “Because you (Sir John) want to retain your position as General Secretary, you go round insulting President Kufuor and painting him as a monster. JAK has got a big heart cos the mess you caused at GNPC alone kwraa is a bomb shell. After doing all these, they turn round to accuse him of not helping ……Hmmmm # divisive_character. “
Davis Opoku Ansah, who is touring the country with Mr. Agyapong, Press Secretary to ex-President Kufuor suggested that Sir John caused a mess, while at the GNPC when he was there as a deputy director.
The Herald recently revealed that Sir John who was in-charge of legal matters at GNPC, got himself involved in visa racketeering and sexual escapades, among others like selling GNPC’s petroleum data to foreigners.
Davis Opoku Ansah’s statement elicited contributions, including one calling Sir John the Bob Okalla of Ghana’s politics.
The AFAG big man further suggested that he had a lot of dirty information on Sir John, but waiting to be challenged to spill the beans.
Meanwhile, Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, yesterday, at a Press Conference appealed to delegates to reward his dedication to the party by voting for him in its upcoming congress in Tamale.
“I believe I have the institutional memory of our great party to put me in good stead to steer the affairs of our party in the capacity of its next General Secretary,” he added.
Kwabena Agyepong said his decision to contest the position is borne out of his strong desire to serve the party with a clear conscience, pure motives and a solid character which is premised on “Competence, Compassion, and Courage”.
According to him, success has never come easy but with the right attitude and approach, the hurdles he describes as insurmountable, can be overcome.
He continued that he would be a practical General Secretary ready to work closely with the party officers at the Polling Station, Constituency and Regional offices to ensure the NPP is provided with the required logistics and training, in a timely manner, to prosecute an effective campaign simultaneously in all the 275 constituencies during the 2016 electioneering campaign.
He also underscored the need for the party to revive the spirit of voluntarism to ensure a resounding victory in the 2016 general elections.
“Service, Sacrifice and Selflessness, should underpin the party’s organizational, electioneering and grass-root mobilization,” he stressed.
He noted that his long dedicated service to the party is a matter of public record, which he says gives him an advantage over his opponents.
“We cannot fail Ghanaians in 2016. Let’s think victory and vote Kwabena Agyei Agyepong for a resounding victory in 2016,” he stated.
He further appealed to party members to eschew divisive tendencies and be guided by principles of choice because, “The very issues that unite us far outweigh those that divide us”.
