Hundreds of Ghanaian women, who are reportedly languishing in Kuwait, after they were trafficked to the Middle East under the pretext of being sent to Europe and America to seek greener pastures are crying for help.
According to information gathered by Starr FM, the women are being molested by their masters and the agents, who trafficked them to Kuwait.
One of the victims, (name withheld) who has escaped to Ghana, narrating her ordeal to Starr News said, she regretted abandoning her job in Ghana to travel to Kuwait for a better life.
“They told me I was going to Canada, so I told my parents that I was going to Canada. But they gave me my passport when I got to the airport and I realized I was rather going to Kuwait.
“I didn’t know that Kuwait was a stupid country…I didn’t know any bad story like that about that [country]. When I got there they told me the salary was equivalent of 1800 in Ghana but…after I started [working] for a month they gave me 50kd which is 500 cedis. I rejected the money because in Ghana I was paid 350 cedis so I decided to come back in Ghana”.
Doris added that several Ghanaian ladies are trapped in that country with no hope of returning home.
According to her, most of the girls are being used as sex slaves. She has, however, appealed to Ghanaian authorities to rescue the girls from their misery.
“If there is any way that you can help my friends to come back, please help them to come because they are there crying. Kuwait is not a country that human beings must go, they treat human beings as slaves and sometimes they would force you to sleep with men”.
Meanwhile, the head of the anti-human trafficking unit of the Ghana Police service, Patience Quaye, has cautioned Ghanaians to be wary of agencies that recruit them to work abroad.
“The people that they send out, they are all educated so whether you are educated or not educated the people can lure you out of the country. Whether you are young or old if you are not careful you will fall victim”.
