The District Chief Executive (DCE), of Sekyere Kumawu District Assembly, Samuel Addai Agyekum, has performed Separate sod cutting ceremonies for the construction of a new market at Sekyere in the Sekyere Kumawu District of Asahnti region and commissioned mechanized Borehole, washroom and Sekyere D/A JHS.
The market is expected to serve more than four communities in the district, Banko, Dadease, Oyoko and Asakyerewa.
The facility, which will have 10 big stalls and sheds and some special structures is expected to be completed in September this year. The project is being funded from the assembly’s share of the common fund.
At the ceremony, Mr Agyekum, said the project was in response to the demand by the people.
He said the lack of proper market in the part of the district, had forced residents to travel long distances to do business at great inconvenience, adding that the people have been agitating for this for years now and they are very excited about the development.
“That is why they have supported it by clearing thei stuff from the site to pave the way for the project”, he added.
Mr Agyekum, also commissioned mechanized Borehole, washroom at Sekyere D/A JHS.
The Chief of the town, Nana Kwabena Osei Onikobi II, lauded Mr Agyekum for playing instrumental role leading to the commencement of the projects in the town and gave assurance that the assemblies would take interest in the execution of the projects to enhance supervision.
For his part, Paul Antwi Oppong, the Director of Education in the area, who was present during the ceremony commended the DCE and government for the project, since it would enhance effective teaching and learning in the area.
