The ‘Ya-Ni Namship’ vacuum left in Dagbon, after the murder of Ya-Naa Yakubu Andani II in 2002, will in the next 72 hours be filled with the Savelugu Naa, hubghnews can report.
Shortly after the final ‘Adua’ of the late Ya-Na Yakubu Andani II on Friday January 18, the incumbent Savelugu Naa, also known as Yoo-Naa, will be enskined per Dagbon tradition.
This portal can report that presently, Yoo-Naa Abukari Mahama VII, is the only qualified candidate to occupy the ‘Yani-Namship’.
He is currently the head of the Andani Royal family. Per the tradition of Dagbon, before one is qualified to occupy the ‘Ya-ni Namship’, He must rule Mion, Karaga and Savelugu and must also be a son of a former Yaa-naa.”So now it is only the Savelugu Naa, who is qualified to occupy the Ya-ni namship,” Mr Anas Abubakar, spokesperson of the Andani family, told hubghnews via phone.
Dagbon, has been without a head since the unfortunate murder of Ya-Naa Yakubu Andani II alongside forty of his elders in March 2002, during a communal conflict between the Andanis and Abudus in Yendi. A regent was appointed in 2006, after the burial of the late chief.
A committee of three eminent chiefs under the leadership of Otumfour Osei tutu II, the Asantehene, was form by the state to mediate between the feuding factions for lasting peace and unity in Dagbon.
The committee finally reached a roadmap that saw the performance of the final funeral rites of the late Ya-Naa Mahamadu Abdulai of the Abudu gate and that of Ya-Naa Yakubu Andani II, which is currently ongoing.
