Accusations of malfeasance and corruption, have become the trade of the day between the District Chief Executive (DCE), the Member of Parliament (MP) for Ada East and Assembly members of the Ada District Assembly in the Greater Accra Region.
The Assembly members, are calling for the removal of John Murudin Ahortu, the DCE from office with immediate effect.
The Assembly members, further accused both public officers of causing financial loss to the Assembly.
Speaking at a press conference, the Presiding Member of the Assembly, Mr Jacob Ofori Caesar, said ever since the DCE and the MP assumed office, the Assembly has been saddled with corrupt practices and the hijacking of contracts.
He said, the MP and the DCE, lacks public relations skills and critical thinking, claiming these have not been part of their administration.
He lamented that the DCE and the MP, Madam Comfort Doeyo Cudjoe Ghansah, have shown gross disrespect to the Chiefs and peoples of Ada East Constituency and Assembly members and that many of the Assembly members, feel aggrieved and have deserted their responsibilities in the decision- making of the Assembly.
Mr Caesar stated in terms of development projects in the area that the DCE has totally neglected the Assembly members and unilaterally awarded contracts without their consent.
He further stated that the DCE approves the projects in the Assembly without due diligence.
He explained that at all times, the DCE denigrates Assembly members and ignore them when taking decisions at the Assembly.
He said, the DCE has gone further to disrespect the laws of the state by condoning and conniving with MP to award contracts to themselves without tender.
He bemoaned people, who are close to the DCE and MP, use fake documents to secure contracts from the Assembly.
He condemned the MP’s behaviour in the handling of the School Feeding Programme and for awarding the contracts to her compatriots in the Constituency.
He went further to say that the MP has never briefed the Assembly on Parliamentary proceedings ever since she assumed office.
Showing how frosty the relation between the Assembly and the MP had been, he said the MP has never organized any social event and invited Assembly members to participate.
He further accused the MP of hijacking projects, like the construction of a lorry park.
He said, the MP inflated the budget for the contract she awarded to herself from four hundred thousand Cedis to over five hundred thousand Ghana Cedis.
He argued that the MP, has also hijacked the construction of the Children’s Hospital, which was being built with funds from the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).
