Embattled employee of Controller and Accountant General’s Department (CAGD), Aminu Abdulai, who was recently hopping from one radio station to another, accusing the acting Coordinator of the National Youth Authority (NYA), Ras Mubarak of engaging in deep “corruption, misappropriation of funds, forgery and criminal ” among others, has been dragged to court for defamation.
The gentleman, who was posted on secondment to the NYA as Director of Finance until he was sacked, was sued together with Kwaku Baako Media Limited, publishers of the ‘New Crusading Guide Newspaper’ and Despite Music Production Limited, owners of Okay FM, whose media outlets published the said defamatory claims.
The writ, which was filed on Tuesday, November 25, by the lawyers for Ras Mubarak, K-Archy & Co at the Accra Fast Track High Court and was chanced upon by The Herald, is seeking “costs including solicitor’s fee”.
In his statement of claim, the NYA boss, is seeking a declaration that, the statements “criminal”, “forging of signatures”, “unqualified to hold the position”
incompetent”, corrupt”, misappropriation of funds”, and “burn ballot boxes” during national election made by the first Defendant and published by outlets owned by the 2nd and 3rd Defendants are defamatory of the Plaintiff”.
Additionally, Mr. Mubarak is also asking the court to place a “Perpetual injunction restraining the Defendants from further publication or causing to be published the said words or anything similar”.
He is also demanding “General damages inclusive of exemplary damages for the defamatory statements made and published by the Defendants” as well as “Costs including solicitor’s fee”.
Mr. Mubarak in earlier interview with The Herald stated that, not a plea from his mother would make him drop the case or stop him from going to court and clear his name.
Meanwhile, The Herald, has also taken possession of some exclusive documents from the Controller and Accountant General’s Department, about allegations of forgery of signature peddled by the gentleman against the NYA Coordinator, Ras Mubarak.
One of the documents, dated October 24, 2014, was titled “Change of Signature”, was signed by the Deputy Controller and Accountant-General, Andrews K.K Kufe.
The letter, which indicated a change of Mr. Aminu Abdulai signature to be replaced with Madam Gladys Ohene Kwaasi, a Senior Accountant of NYA, was copied to acting National Coordinator of the NYA, revealing that indeed, the embattled CAGD staff’s signature was not forged as he alleged.
The emergence of the letter, was in sharp contrast to Mr. Abdulai’s accusation that the NYA boss, had forged his signature.
Another document which The Herald is carefully studying, is a leaked memo from the Ministry of Youth And Sports, which was written and signed by the Chief Director, Alhaji Abudulai Yakubu to the Minister, regarding 450,000 feeding grant which the gentleman claimed, has been misappropriated by Ras Mubarak.
It would be recalled that a month ago, Aminu claimed his office was locked on the orders of his boss, Ras Mubarak, because he refused to carry out the NYA Coordinator’s directives to misappropriate public funds of about GH¢215,100.00 out of GH450,000.00 meant for the Youth Leadership & Skill Training Institutes (YLSTIs).
Aminu Abdulai claimed that, Mubarak ordered his office to be broken into and closed on Friday October 17, 2014, for his refusal to carry out Mubarak’s corruption orders.
The court, has meanwhile, instructed the under fire Controller and Accountant General’s employee who is the 1st Defendant and others, Kwaku Baako Media Limited, publishers of the ‘New Crusading Guide Newspaper’ and Despite Music Production Limited, owners of Okay FM in the writ, to enter an appearance within 8 days.
