President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has done the unthinkable yesterday, when he sacked the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Charlotte Osei and her two deputies.
The president, by this action is pushing this country to the brink of war. It does not look like the president was minded to rethink this decision, which is so colossal, with the tendency to destroy this country.
Since the petition for the removal of the EC chair was sent, we have been asking for the identity of those behind it.
Their identity, still remain a mystery, yet our human rights touted president, has gone ahead to remove her from office, against all the warning signs that, it would not be a popular decision.
President Akufo-Addo, inherited a united country, he wants to leave behind a divided one.
We are still yet to be told the real reason for her dismissal, an incompetent chairperson, who supervised the elections you won, does not sit well with us.
Since the inauguration of president Akufo-Addo, the country has been full of tension; he has succeeded with the help of his cousin, Chief Justice to remove Charlotte Osei.
All these, including the decision to exclude voters’ Identification Card from the list of primary document for Ghana Card registration, is all geared towards rigging the 2020 and future elections.
Again, calling to question the credibility of the chairperson on the basis of stated misbehavior and incompetence, in our opinion, is fortuitous, to say the least.
It speaks volumes about the integrity of the president and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) that went to work immediately after winning the 2016 election to get Charlotte Osei out.
It is our opinion that the dismissal at this time, with elections in 2020 less than three years to go, come loaded with preconceived notions and goals not in tandem with the overall national goal and therefore calculated to distract from the nation’s collective aspirations for peaceful, free and fair elections.
