Politicians Must Act Cautiously On Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital

Why is it that some appointees of the President, John Dramani Mahama are hell bent on making sure that he does not sleep at night, when he retires for the day, after appointing them?

What crime has he committed for reposing so much confidence in some of them that they decided to throw it all at his face the very first day they step into their offices?

What was the justification for the newly sworn-in Minister of Health, Agyeman Kweku Manu, for re-engaging the former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Korle-bu Teaching Hospital, Rev Albert Okpoti Botchwey, who was relief of his post by the former Minister, Madam Sherry Ayittey.

It is obvious that with the pool of personnel at KBTH and by extension the country has it that, Rev. Okpoti is not the only person capable of managing the hospital.

Madam Sherry Ayittey, took the decision to ask Rev. Okpoti to step aside based on a recommendation of a Committee she set up. Perhaps on hindsight that decision was wrong, but since that was the only thing that brought sanity to KBTH, the new Minister has no business reversing that decision.

Workers on all fronts of the hospital are threatening to grind the place to a halt, already the Pharmacy at the place has been closed, do we need to see a total shutdown of the place before politicians begin to do the right thing.

Politicians are too stubborn and don’t listen, when the Deputy Minister of Health, appeared before the Vetting Committee of Parliament, Dr. Benjamin kumbuor, advised him to try as much as possible to read the handing over notes of his predecessors, he made a particular reference to that of the late Major (RTD), Courage Quarshigah.

KBTH is becoming ungovernable, so anybody appointed to head the Ministry responsible for that Institution or appointed to head the place must tread cautiously and act tactfully.
