One of the fragmented Nkrumahists parties, the People’s National Convention (PNC), on Wednesday outdoored, it’s Vice Presidential candidate for the December 7, elections.
The leadership of the PNC, joined by the presidential candidate; Dr. Edward Mahama, National Chairman, Bernard Monnah, Atik Mohammed, General Secretary, among a host of party supporters in Accra, introduced Emmanuel Anyidoho, as the party’s running mate, ahead of the flagbearer picking his nomination forms at the Electoral Commission head office in Accra.
Speaking at the introduction ceremony, Mr. Anyidoho, a development consultant by profession, said a new era has dawned and the world awaits the country to achieve its developmental aims.
According to him, the past decade has been very trying for Ghana, but the country has been able to produced visionary man of integrity in the person of Dr. Edward Mahama.
“I am humbled and proud to be selected by the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party to be part of the team for the new Ghana of 2017.
The new vision as espoused by the team is on three pillars namely new beginning, New deal and new force as enshrined in the party’s manifesto for the 2016 elections”.
He explained that the new beginning is towards Public Sector Reforms with an uncompromised efficiency.
A new deal is to provide substantial support to upscale productivity in key sectors of the economy such as Agriculture and industry while the new force is to harness the great untapped potentials of the energetic youth to drive the wheels of national development with focus on reducing unemployment he maintained.
“Our great party has all able technocrats like me to provide the technical knowledge to optimally drive the mechanism that powers these above mentioned three pillars”, he stressed.
He argued that the underpinning efforts are to identify the institutions of macroeconomic stability which has eluded past governments particularly the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The bedrock of all these, is the need for fiscal discipline through the curtailment of extravagant expenditures fueled by non-productive government consumption.
He stretched these actions have rendered the monetary policy ineffective resulting in persistent high interest rates, borrowing from the Central bank and abroad while crowding out and killing the private sector, which is the engine of growth.
He noted that the resultant local de-industrialization has had to be replaced with a penchant for devaluing the Cedi which continue depreciates the exchange rate.
The empty factories have now become prayer centres and churches where the suffering masses turn to crying to God to come and save them.
It is immoral to saddle our future unborn generation with bad debts they know nothing about.
He gave assurance that come January, 2017 the newly inaugurated PNC government led by Dr. Mahama with him as the Vice President will arrest all these misdemeanors through a simple fiscal discipline.
Speaking briefly to this paper after the outdooring ceremony, Atik Mohammed, General Secretary of the party, said Mr. Anyidoho, brings on board expertise in economic management among others.
He said, the PNC’s Vice Presidential candidate, has helped some African countries sail out of the fiscal indiscipline the country is facing now.
He minces no words when he said, the PNC Vice presidential candidate, appeals to the middle class in the society.
