Cleanliness, we are taught is next to godliness. Scores of worshippers across the globe last Friday, converged at the Independence Square for Pastor Chris Oyakhilome’s “Night of Bliss” crusade.
The crusade could not have ended with worshippers not praying for the country and so we are grateful that, such a large gathering of worshippers could take place in Ghana.
However, the crusade was not without incidence or controversy. The first was the decision by the Ghana Police to close some principal streets of Accra. A section of Ghanaians, raised issues with that decision and so the Police rescinded that action and rather deployed their personnel around the environs of the venue to control traffic.
The programme was well attended as worshippers arrived at the venue as early as 6 am, a Friday which was supposed to be a working day.
As it is with every human gathering, the place and its surrounding areas were littered with rubbish. Fortunately, the next day, which was a Saturday was the first Saturday of the month and as instituted was supposed to be the National Sanitation Day (NSD).
A visit to the place on Saturday morning and you would empathize with workers of Zoomlion, who have been deployed to clean the place. The whole place was disorganized with heaps of rubbish scattered everywhere.
Interestingly, Zoomlion Ghana Limited was not involved in the organization of the programme, yet they are the people, we fall on after leaving the place in a mess.
Worshippers, did not only dirty the place, but openly defecated, a national monument, which we are supposed to safeguard.
This is not the first time, such a gathering of worshippers converged at the Independence Square to pray, how are the rest able to properly organize by involving all the stakeholders?
Every December, The International Central Gospel Church (ICGC), organizes cross over on the 31st, we never witness, these incidence.
Pastor Chris and Christ Embassy, must be surcharged for the mess they left at the venue, we cannot allow this to pass or just sweep it under the carpet.
