Over Attempt To Damage His Reputation With Fleeting Political Power
It was a tense moment at the Manhyia Palace on Wednesday, as New Patriotic Party (NPP) executives, fell to their knees to apologise to the Asantehene, who had revealed that, some appointees of President Nana Akufo-Addo, are hatching a dirty plot to dent his image and lower his relevance in the country.
The plea for forgiveness, follows the Asantehene’s outburst that, there are active attempts by people highly connected to the Presidency to destroy his image by pitching him against the Akyems.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, specifically mentioned two blood relatives of President Akufo-Addo, Gabby Otchere-Darko, and Nana Asante Bediatuo, who is the Secretary to the President, as the two main culprits connected to the seat of government working to bring him down.
Otumfuo, insisted that, Nana Asante Bediatuo and Gabby Otchere-Darko’s evil agenda against him, is to use political power to impugn his reputation, but declared that nothing can damage his hard earned positive image, adding that the Golden Stool, which he occupies, is very powerful, therefore, the plot by the two men against him, would undoubtedly fail.
The Asantehene, however, sent a strong message to President Akufo-Addo, to quickly call his men to order, because they are treading on dangerous grounds, and angrily added that no political power, can bring his authority and power down in the country.
Acting General Secretary, John Boadu and Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei Mensah, party Regional Chairman, Bernard AntwiBoasiako, and Regional Coordinator of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), Kwabena Senkyire, trooped to the Manyhia Palace to plead with the revered Ashanti King to spare the governing party his wrath.
Mr Boadu, was also at the Palace to secure Otumfuo’s blessing in his bid to secure confirmation as General-Secretary of the NPP ahead of the party’s national executive elections.
The entourage attempted to assuage the King’s anger, praying for clemency at the open court of the Manhyia Palace.
At one point, Otumfuo’s linguist, Baffour Kantankrakyi, stepped in to intercede on behalf of the NPP bigwigs, who were still on their knees before the King.
‘’Your own grandchildren, the Regional Minister, the Mayor and John Boadu. They say this is a surprise to them.”
“As a caring parent, you don’t harbour ill-feeling. They are pleading for pardon. Please, forgive them,’’ Otumfuo’s linguist said on their behalf.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, was responding to Mr Boadu’s appeal, seeking the King’s blessing ahead of the party’s National Delegates Conference.
He did not take kindly to what he described as attempts by the two individuals linked to the President to denigrate the Golden stool in their attempts to exalt Okyehene’s stool.
According to him, he is reliably informed the two officials, who have been carrying out nefarious activities with their cohorts hired to bring him down.
He warned such people to be careful in their pursuit, since he is aware of their every move.
The Asantehene, who appeared visibly angry minced no words during the outburst, which lasted about three minutes.
Shocked at the anger of the Asante Kingdom’s overlord, the linguists quickly intervened to calm the situation.
The Ashanti Regional Minister, led the NPP executives into the open court of the Manhyia Palace, where they quickly sought forgiveness for clemency from the Asantehene.
The move, coupled with the linguists’ incessant appeal for mercy, was enough to calm down an angered Otumfuo, to the relief of the NPP bigwigs.
Nhyira News sources say, President Akufo-Addo, will soon lead a government delegation to the Manhyia Palace to beg for his relatives, who have become so powerful in his government cutting all manner of deals in various sectors of the economy.
Some of them have been captured on tape telling their lady friends, they are going to be billionaires by the time Nana Akufo-Addo ends his tenure
Ashanti Region has been the electoral ‘World Bank’ of the governing NPP since 1992.
The party recorded about 1,700,000 votes, representing 75 percent of ballots cast, the highest for all regions, in the 2016 presidential elections.
