The Kingmakers of Osu Traditional Area, have reacted to the disturbance that happened in the Osu community, regarding a demonstration organised by some people claiming to be elders and youth of Osu.
According to the Kingmakers, the people claiming to be elders and youth of Osu, were hired from the neighboring communities and not Osu indigenes.
The kingmakers said, this at press briefing at the Osu Mantse Palace in Accra and condemned the lawless act in no uncertain terms and advise all well-meaning citizens to ignore and treat the actions with the contempt it deserves.
‘’On behalf of the Osu Stool, we apologize to any personality who might have incurred any inconvenience during that lawless and misguided behavior put up by those people‘’ the Kingmakers pleaded.
The kingmakers stated that, there are rules and regulations governing every institution including chieftaincy, therefore if anyone is interested in any chieftaincy title or position that person should go through the proper laid down norms and practices of the community and not through the back door.
‘’a proverb says if you buy a crown and put it on, that alone does not make you a chief, also be it known that there is no promotion within chieftaincy titles, it belongs to a clan and nothing can be added or subtracted‘’ they noted.
They described the allegationggs leveled against the Osu Mantse and the President of the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs who doubles as the President of Osu Traditional Area, Nii Okwei Kinka Dowuona VI , of land sales as unfounded and without basis, adding that the Stool is in court with Lands Commission and some tenants to retrieve and regularize their leases.
The Kingmakers revealed that the Marine Drive Project has seen the light of day and very soon terms of the MOU signed with the Ministry of Tourism will be implemented and also compensation for the land paid, which according to them checks could be done at the Ministry of Tourism whether any money in terms of compensation has been released to the Stool.
On the Osu Stool GIMPA land allegation, the Kingmakers stated it was Nii Kinka Dowuona VI who made the community aware of court rulings in 2012 and even took the whole community to see the land and performed customary rites to thank the Almighty God and the ancestors for the victory.
‘’How can he turn around and sell the land that has been reserved for the relocation of citizens of Osu ,‘’ they quizzed .
