Agya Koo and Lil Win, must brace themselves up as their hour and moment of glory has come, Hassan Ayariga, who is out of the People’s National Convention (PNC), is considering one of the Kumawood duo, as his running mate, as he is about to announce the formation of his political party.
Democracy, they say is expensive and the price we are paying, I think is more than we bargained for.
The PNC shot themselves in the foot, when they decided to sell the cat and go for the dog. Ever since, Dr. Edward Mahama, took over the flagbearership slot of the party, after the demise of Dr. Hilla Limann, the third president of the fourth Republic, the party have always garnered more than one percent of the votes cast, but with Hassan Ayariga in 2012, the spoilt ballot performed better than the party.
Even the newly formed Progressive Peoples Party (PPP), led by Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom, did better than the PNC.
I was shock to the bone, when I heard Hassan Ayariga, was putting himself up again to contest in the presidential primary of the PNC, after such an abysmal and disgraceful performance in the 2012 election, what possible reasons could inform his decision; your guess is as good as mine.
In the run- up to the 2012 election, I wrote an article captioned “Is Hassan Ayariga Contesting for SRC President”. I had calls from people, asking me what the man have done to me and said it was below the belt, but after the December 7, election; I was vindicated, as the man fooled all the way to the election.
A bad loser is one, who is quick to start throwing allegations, when results don’t go their way, I have always said that, in any contest you either win or lose, and there is never a middle line. So when you are entering into any contest, you should be mindful of this fact.
Hassan Ayariga in 2011 defeated Dr. Edward Mahama in the primaries of the PNC to lead the party, the good Doctor, was not heard accusing anybody of
skewing the election in favour of Hassan Ayariga.
He accepted the results as the wishes of the people, he waited again to launch another shot at the presidency, after the rank and file of the party, prevailed upon him to come back and salvage the dwindling fortunes of the party.
In any serious nation, Hassan Ayariga, is only fit for a role in kumawood movies, starring alongside, Agya Koo and Lil Win. So once, he has indicated his intention to contest in next year’s presidential election with a new political party, I propose to him some possible candidates for the position of running mate, Agya Koo, Lil Win, Kweku Manu, any of these three individuals, will make a great team.
Hassan Ayariga, must get serious and throw his weight behind the choice of the delegates of his party, the reckless and unguarded comments on radio, will not help his course.
Maybe someone is yet to remind him that, the fact that, the media is fixated on him is not because of his intellectual prowess and analysis, but because of the comedy. When the media has anything serious to discuss, he will not be called, so he should not deceive himself of any convoluted
He needs self reflection and introspection, going forward, if he needs to remain relevant in the political landscape.
Back in school, students who contested for the position of Student Representative Council (SRC), sound more serious than Hassan Ayariga.
He has been running his mouth after the contest, claiming among other things that, the PNC is practicing Mafia Games in elections and not democracy.
He alleged again that, the police personnel and the Electoral Commission (EC) officials who were supposed to be fair during the election, took bribes to massage and skew the result in favor of his opponent, Dr. Edward Mahama.
This could best pass as a childish comment from a sour loser. I remember very well when the New Patriotic Party (NPP), led by the presidential candidate, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, his running mate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and the ex-chairman, Jake Otanka Obetsebi Lamptey, took the Electoral Commission and the President, John Dramani Mahama, to the Supreme Court to have the 2012 presidential election annulled for irregularities, Hassan Ayariga, was among the many Ghanaians, who said the NPP, didn’t have a case.
He chided the petitioners, calling them names, now that he has tasted real defeat, he is bitter and claiming the election was rigged.
Information, coming from Wa, the capital of the Upper West Region, where the Congress took place was that, Hassan Ayariga, was the one sharing money to lure delegates to vote for him, no wonder he is complaining after losing the contest.
I did not hear the man make these noises when he lost the 2012 election, what has he seen or gotten that is making him go crazy to the extent of contemplating to form a political party.
Our politicians and political parties do not want power to advance the course of Ghana and the people, if they do, they will not be wasting their time on parties and individuals that cannot command even 100 people.
We need to raise the standards in our politics, we have to elevate the discussion, we need to encourage people with impeccable character, we need to encourage people with the capacity and ability to effect change, not comedians who see politics as a means to amass wealth.
Hassan Ayariga, was a scar on our conscience, he should remain in our past.
