After series of meetings with the grass root of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC),the former Parliamentary candidate for Okaikoi North Constituency in the Greater Accra Region (GAR), Mr Andrew Okaikoi, has abandon his ambitions of becoming a legislator to work for the party in the position of Vice chairperson.

Credible information gathered by The Herald from the Tesano residence of Mr Okaikoi suggests that, the husband of former Information Minister, Zita Okaikoi and now Ghana’s Ambassador to Czech Republic, has joined the race for the Vice chairmanship slot of the NDC.

Mr Okaikoi, who was the Chairman of the Ghana National Council on People With Disability and businessman is among the tall list of contestants seeking to be elected Vice Chairpersons of the party come December.

Mr Okaikoi, is expected to slug it out with the following individuals: Mr Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, former Minister for Local Government and Rural Development under the late President, John Evans Atta-Mills, Betty Mould-Iddrisu, former Minister for Justice and Attorney-General, Mr Lee Ocran, former Minister for Education.

Sources have hinted that some newly elected Constituency executives of the party, Members of Parliament, top NDC stalwarts and certain influential figures at the presidency, are pushing for Andrew Okaikoi to contest for the position.

Simultaneously, he became the Koforidua House Branch Secretary and Mataheko Ward Secretary both in the Ablekuma Central Constituency of the Greater Accra Region.
