.. After His Election
Deputy Executive Director of the National Service Scheme (NSS), Henry Nana Boakye, popularly known as Nana B, has refused to leave his post despite his recent election as the National Youth Organizer of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP).
According to him, he is waiting for President Akufo-Addo to return to Ghana from his trip to China, before he resigns.
Interestingly, his party, had insisted that those holding both government and party offices, must relinquish one to concentrate on the other, but Nana B, is yet is yet to comply.
This is not the first time that Nana B, has claimed he was going to leave the NSS.
Indeed, shortly, after his election in Koforidua at the NPP National Delegates Conference, he announced in Daily Guide newspaper that, he was going to resign from his NSS position and concentrate fully on his political job, which is very demanding, but two months have passed, and he is still in office drawing salary.
The Daily Guide quoted him saying, “I am now consulting some big people in our party and other dignitaries and surely I will resign as the deputy national director of the NSS soon. The NPP national youth organizer position and the NSS deputy director in charge of operations are both important and time-consuming positions. I have therefore decided to step down as the NSS deputy national director so that I can concentrate fully on the NPP work to help my party”.
The Herald’s information was that he doesn’t come to office, but has his boys in the office running his secretariat for him. This paper was told he sneaks in once in awhile late evenings, pretending to be working.
On one of his late even attendances he is reported to have stormed the offices of the Executive Secretary of the NSS, Mustapha Ussif, demanding one of the fresh V8 Toyota Prado cars; part of the Twelve Million One Hundred Seventy Four Thousand, Two Hundred and Ninety Nine Ghana Cedis, Ninety Five Pesewaas (GH¢12,174,299.95) cars bought for the NSS, but was turned down.
Although, the NPP National Youth Organizer constantly admits that time is up for him to bow out of office and concentrate fully on his political job which is very demanding, he waters it down saying “Where I got my appointment from, I’ll go there and speak to my appointing authority very soon and afterwards I’ll officially put out an announcement.
“I’ll surely relinquish that job, God willing when the President returns from his trip abroad I’ll go to him and thank him for the honour done me by allowing me to serve under his government. I’ll even serve him much better in my capacity as the National Youth Organizer of the NPP. He said on Peace FM Tuesday.
, Nana B, was on July 7, 2018, elected the National Youth Organizer of the NPP, taking over from the charismatic Sammi Awuku.
He polled 423 votes to beat his contenders; Dominic Kwesi Edua, Kamal Deen and Appiah Dansah, who polled 243 votes, 102 votes and 1 vote respectively at the party’s 26th Annual Delegates Conference held in Koforidua in the Eastern Region.
Ahead of the NPP Youth elections in July, several people raised concerns on the possible conflict of interest with regards to the holding of both national and partisan office by Nana B.
The general fear was that, once he rises to the Youth Organiser position, combined with his current position, his services will now be limited to only people of the NPP stock.
