The governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), will after winning the 2020 general elections, amend the 1992 Constitution, to make way for President Akufo-Addo to contest the 2024 elections, a member of the government communication team has revealed.
Kwame Baffoe, who is the party’s Brong Ahafo Regional Youth Organizer, has said the NPP would win 56 per cent of the votes in that election and will also win more seats in Parliament to render the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) powerless, so that they (NPP) can use their majority to change the 1992 Constitution.
“Nana Addo after the eight years if care is not taken we shall make amendment. After the 2020 elections we shall make amendment so he can go for the third term. We shall ensure the amendment to extend his mandate to contest the 2024 elections because his performance is admirable.
By the end of 2024, the NDC will be left with 20 seats, so we shall do a constitutional amendment for his third term, because his administration is a performing.
This is going to be possible because after that 2024 election when he is supposed to be done per the Constitution; the amendment will be carried out so that instead of bringing a different person, we shall bring him again”, he has said.
The loud-mouthed communicator, who is vying to become the party’s regional first vice chairman in this weekend’s regional election of the party, said there is no party that can stop the NPP from winning the 2020 and 2024 general elections.
Speaking on Accra-based Okay FM on Monday, Kwame Baffoe popularly known as Abronye DC, said the opposition NDC which now has a sizeable number of Parliamentarians, having lost a good number of their seats to the NPP in the last elections, will lose more to make them useless in the legislative house.
He was reacting to reports of his own claim on the same station last week Monday that, the 2020 elections was not for old men.
According to him, the “2020 election was not for old men” assertion he made was for his opponents in the regional race and not national. “Nana Addo is not an old man”, he clarified.
He said the NDC which is working to regain some of it lost seats will at best win only 20 seats in the 2020 presidential and parliamentary elections.
According to him, it is at this stage that the governing party which will be having an overwhelming seats will use it majority to change the Constitution which at its present state bars every president from contesting for a third term, to make it possible for President Akufo-Addo to contest again.
Abronye DC, who premised his argument on his conviction that the president is delivering on his promises, said he wished the President is allowed to be president till he attains 91 years.
In his view, President Akufo-Addo has performed beyond expectation reason since he assumed office no government worker has claimed of unpaid or delayed salary, no complaint of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) not working efficiently and so on. “We are very content with Nana Addo’s performs so far.
See what happened at Australia instead of promoting his appointees, he has rather suspended them and there is investigation on-going”, he said.
