Leaked Document Reveals Party Strategy
Sex, profanity, and vulgarity, are beginning to take over the 2016 electioneering campaign, with the New Patriotic Party (NPP), scoring the highest points so far.
This appears not to be a fluke, but a well thought out strategy by the NPP to have access to the seat of government, The Flagstaff House – Kanda, Accra.
A leaked letter purportedly signed by the NPP Director of Communications, Nana Akomea entitled “Communication Strategy to Upset the NDC” is directing all NPP communicators to “target the NDC candidate Obuobia, who is on the group (sic) by throwing out sex allegations among others” at her.
This according to the one-page document classified as “Confidential File” is because the NPP is about losing the Weija-Gbawe seat to the governing NDC, due to the unpopularity of Tina Mensah, the NPP Parliamentary candidate.
It said “we are likely to lose one of our major seats in Gt Accra- Weija- Gbawe – because our PC, is losing popularity as result of the rancor between her and our executives there. She needs serious help and target the NDC candidate, Obuobia, who is popular on the group by throwing out sex allegations among others”.
The first sex and vulgar shot was fired by the NPP’s Kennedy Agyapong in Kumasi during the launch of his colleague; Patricia Appiagyei’s campaign to be retained as the Member Parliament (MP) for Asokwa Constituency in the Ashanti Region, attacking the Electoral Commission (EC) Chairperson, Charlotte Osei.
Kennedy Agyapong’s “sex for job” comment against the EC boss, has received an open support from Ursula G. Owusu-Ekuful, MP for Ablekuma West, and lately the NPP National Women’s Organizer, Otiko Djaba.
Nana Akomea’s supposed letter which is dated July 3, 2016, charged Colleagues to take note; Per our strategy last week, we are to adhere strictly to the following going forward as part of strategies to unseat the enemy:
1. Make it a point to open every submission on radio, tv with our quest to create jobs. Job creation, job creation and job creation must continue to flow in your opening statement. Never mind if the topic is about technology or health; stress on job creation.
2. Avoid debates with the following if you are unprepared – Omane Boamah, Felix Ofosu- Kwakye, and Fiifi Kwetey.
3. “We are likely to lose one of our major seats in Gt Accra- Weija- Gbawe – because our PC is losing popularity as result of the rancor between her and our executives there. She needs serious help and target the NDC candidate Obuobia who is popular on the group by throwing out sex allegations among others.
4. You must go back to the 10-point plan to solving unemployment by Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and weave your argument around that. It is essential to our survivor (Sic) in this fight for power.
The document asked the party officers to Refer to the various heads of communication, if they need further clarification.
Meanwhile, Otiko Djaba, the NPP National Women’s Organizer, has renewed allegations that Charlotte Osei, was appointed the Chairperson of EC, after granting sexual favours to the appointing authority.
The allegation, which was first made by the Assin Central MP, Kennedy Agyapong, was widely condemned as an attack on women, but the NPP National Women’s Organizer in a Citi News interview, said the claims are worth investigating, because the Honorable MP, could not have been peddling untruths.
“We need to focus on why he said it because he is not an ordinary person. He is a member of our legislature. He should not be condemned outright but we should find out if there is any merit in what he said or not…For the sake of our country, for the sake of democracy, for the sake of peace and transparency in the election. There is no smoke without fire and this Honorable man will not come and make that statement with no reason.”
