A new group formed within the New Patriotic Party (NPP), calling itself Patriotic Revolutionary Youth (PRY), has said that there would be a nationwide radical revolution that would soon hit the party, as it kick starts the groundwork towards 2016 general election.
The group, identified as real “revolutionary-blooded youth of the NPP” said, the party has “suffered numerously from a defective and naïve approach to elections in the past” adding that “we believe it’s our responsibility to undertake a comprehensive and sweeping revolution of the party as revolutionary-blooded youths”.
In a strong-worded statement signed by three leading members of the group, Danso Simon Asamoah– President, Gyamfi Ameyaw Boakye – Organiser and Joseph Otoo – Secretary and copied to The Herald, noted that the only reason for their party’s defeat in 2008 and 2012 elections, was that the party’s approach to these elections were “defective, awkward and childish”.
The group stated that, “this revolution is a dire and urgent necessity and in fact, a precondition for victory in 2016”.
According to them, it “just cannot understand how on earth we could lose both the 2008 and 2012 elections; after we comparatively preached the best message and run the best campaign”.
They noted that, as youth, they have critically “taken time to observe that there must be a radical change in our approach to elections in this country, should our dream of beating the NDC in 2016 become a reality”.
They warned that without this comprehensive and sweeping revolution in the approach to elections, the party would continue to disappoint the people of this country and remain in opposition.
They said, “Beating the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) in presidential elections demands more than what the rank and file know, and have been doing all this while”.
The revolution will equip the rank and file with the requisite knowledge of the real things that can and will win power in 2016. “Our revolution will ensure that we as a party do things we have always taken for granted’.
The youth insisted that the NPP needs a comprehensive and sweeping revolution, and assured all stakeholders of their commitment and readiness to carrying it out.
It would be recalled that not long ago, a member of the communication team of National Democratic Congress (NDC), Allotey Jacobs, also gave similar counsel to the NPP to give way to the youth in the party.
Reacting to developments in the NPP and how its members are already ‘rushing’ for various positions, Mr. Allotey said, majority of the leaders in NPP “are full of old men who are running affairs.
“ They are outmoded as far as politics is concerned and there is nothing new that can come out of them…they should give chance to the youth”
Speaking on an Accra-based Peace FM’s morning show ‘Kokrokoo’ Mr. Allotey Jacobs said, there should be ‘an emergence’ of a new group of youthful people in the NPP so that they can match up to the NDC; ‘who are full of young and strong people’
According to him, there is a new phase that has emerged onto the political landscape and so NPP needs to reform itself…a revolution has to take place in the party with an emergence of new faces especially the youth to handle the affairs of the party.
It is believed that the group might have taken and heeded to the call made by NDC guru.
