…..Affable Isaac Osei Demands
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Subin Constituency in the Ashanti Region, Isaac Osei, has shown maturity by refusing to join his fellow party guru and National Executive Council (NEC) member, Eugene Boakye Antwi, to play gutter politics for recently calling him a fool, because he has Fanti blood in him.
The legislator, has said he was unable to react angrily to attacks on his person by Mr. Antwi, but challenged the party leadership, led by the General Secretary, Kwabena Agyei Agyapong and National Chairman, Paul Afoko, to take the necessary action on the party elder to bring some modicum of sanity in the largest opposition party.
“It is the party, the NPP party that needs to say something about it. The truth is that, if I am the one you are insulting, maybe it is because you have an issue, but if you say you have spent money because of the primary and then make it public and then proceed on that to insult. Everyone spends on the party”, he said.
Reacting for the first time in the media to the recent unwarranted attack on him by Mr. Antwi who is aiming to unseat him, the former High Commissioner to the United Kingdom (UK) in the erstwhile John Kufuor administration said, he has decided to leave the matter at the door steps of the party, as he believes it is a party of law and order.
“The only thing I can say is that NPP as a political party, we have laws, we have ways of doing things, we have executives, national executives, national council is also there. Left to me alone, I would have said it is nothing but to say it is the Fanti blood in me that is why I am a fool, oh this world ah, I would leave it to the party. It is what the party will say that stands. I won’t talk about this issue again.
I will leave it to the party to take a decision on it, because it is completely unacceptable. Sometimes, we say something has happened in some country, these are the things that bring about these things. I don’t think any Fanti has done him any wrong. I have heard of him insulting other tribes which are unacceptable. Those advising should talk to him well because NPP as a political party will not allow someone like that to stand on it ticket”, he said.
The MP, said this when he granted an interview to Neat FM’s Adakabre Frimpong Manso in Accra recently, outlining the reasons he decided to contest once more after serving two-terms in Parliament.
His comment comes weeks after a secret tape recording of Mr Antwi, a very hot-headed activist of the NPP, was heard making ethnocentric remarks about the MP, whose crime was that he expressed interest to contest the Subin seat for the third time.
“He is a fool, he is a selfish person. I said he is a fool, don’t mind him the Fanti blood in him has fooled him. Leave him he has no sense….Isaac is behind all the noises, he is behind all if he says he doesn’t know anything, he is lying”, the tough-speaking Eugene Antwi, was captured on tape as saying.
Mr. Antwi, a close associate of the NPP’s 2016 presidential candidate, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo, was disgusted by the MP’s intension to contest again, when he Mr. Antwi, had heard that he the MP, was not going to contest. After the tape went viral, Mr. Antwi, was reported to have issued a statement apologizing for his behaviour. He has since refused to make public comment about the matter.
But according to the MP, he had thought the party parliamentary primaries was a competition of family members, he did not know, it was a battle of where one comes from.
He said, contrary to Mr. Antwi’s thinking that he is a Fanti, he is not, but rather an Ahanta from Dixcove in the Western Region. The former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of COCOBOD, said it was his mother, who comes from Dixcove, while his father comes from Ashanti Region.
“I am not a Fanti, I am an Ahanta, my mother is from Dixcove and I am proud of being an Ahanta. My father is an Ashanti and I am also very proud of that and so I have a combination of Ahanta and Ashanti”, he explained.
While explaining that he was gearing up for vetting and campaign, he called on everyone who is interested in the seat to come onboard to contest.
The Herald has learnt that the Subin Constituency in the Kumasi Metropolis, has a huge Fanti population, and Eugene Boakye Antwi’s insults could make the NPP lose the seat. Meanwhile, Eugene Boakye Antwi who insulted Northerners on the same tape, has since gone into political hibernation.
