The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary Candidate for Madina Constituency, Alhaji Abubakar Saddique Boniface, has admonished the rank and file of the party, not to be deceived by the Economic Intelligence Unit’s (EIU’s) report predicting this year’s election in favour of the NPP.
The NPP, must be wary of the findings of the report and not go to sleep, because it has been predicted that the party would emerge victorious in the upcoming Presidential and Parliamentary elections, he said.
Alhaji Boniface, gave this admonition, when he appeared as a panelist on Accra- based radio station, Oman FM, in reaction to the report released by EIU, the United Kingdom based policy think tank in Accra last week.
The parliamentary candidate, who is canvassing to represent the chiefs and people of Madina in the La-Nkwantang Municipal Assembly of the Greater Accra Region, sounded a word of caution to the supporters of the party, and urged them to avoid being lured into slumber by the report.
The one time Cabinet Minister for Works and Housing under Ex-President John Agyekum Kufour’s administration, said emphatically that NPP should not be deceived by the sweetness in the report.
‘’ The NPP must not let complacency sets in the run-up to the election because it has been predicted that the party is likely to win the November 7, presidential polls’’ he stressed.
According to him, the party needs to tone down on such reports and focus its energies on working hard to ensure victory come November 7.
He said what the NPP need now is hard work to be able to unseat the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) led by President John Dramani Mahama in the elections.
He warned that complacency is one of the keys that will the NPP lose the election if the party goes to sleep per the predictions of the report.
He said even though the report is credible and coming from a body like the EIU, the party must be seen on the ground because it is difficult to wrestle power from a formidable party like the NDC.
He said this is the time for the all members of the party to unite; up their sleeves, go into the trenches and work hard for the victory of the party and at large victory for Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
He admitted that is a fact that John Dramani Mahama’s administration had splashed certain parts of the country with infrastructural projects but the electorate is not feeling it on the ground.
He said the governing NDC claims it is putting up schools and hospitals with the ‘Transforming Ghana Changing lives agenda but people are not enthused about what is in their pockets.
He questioned how will the people patronize the services of the schools and the hospitals, if they cannot afford their services then facility becomes a white elephant and will serve no purpose and let alone transform lives.
He said the NDC is gradually taking the nation back to the days cash and carry because National Health Insurance is not working.
‘’People are dying in the various hospitals across the country because the NHIS is dormant and service providers do not have faith in the government when it comes to paying them, so now are demanding money before treatment.
Even now emergency cases have been ignored and family people are made to deposit money before their patients are treated’’.
