The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), might tomorrow take its political immaturity a notch higher by supporting the recommendations of the party’s Disciplinary Committee to suspend General Secretary, Kwabena Agyei Agyapong, based on a frivolous petition from one Musah Superior, an Akufo-Addo Hallelujah chorus boy.
The skewed Disciplinary Committee, which is working without the Maverick politician cum lawyer, Nii Ayikoi Otoo, and Nana Yaw Osei, but rather age mates of Nana Akufo-Addo namely, Rev Asante Antwi, Dr. Addo Kufour, Prof. Mike Oquaye and Madam Ama Busia, has considered three petitions so far from K.T Hammond, a certain Owusu Ansah, and Musah Superior.
The Herald’s observation is that, the decision to have Mr. Agyapong suspended, is not premised on any misconduct, such as misappropriation of funds or gross disrespect, but merely on the basis that, he ordered the removal of a portrait photograph of Nana Akufo-Addo from his office, because he was of the view that, Musah Superior’s “polished” picture, was inappropriate.
Mr. Agyapong, this paper gathered, rejected the picture bought by Musa Superior, because it had been worked on with the 72-year old Nana Addo, not looking exactly like his true self.
The NPP General Secretary’s explanation to wait for the official 2016 campaign picture of the NPP flagbearer, led to Musah Superior, packing out from the party’s Asylum Down headquarters in Accra.
Musah Superior, who is said to be bitter with his former boss; Mr. Agyapong, because he excluded him from an NPP trip to South Korea, also mentioned the NPP’s General Secretary’s association with one Nana Poku, whom he claimed openly insults Nana Akufo-Addo, calling him a “Taliban Terrorist” among others.
Another triviality noted in Musah Superior’s petition dated November 20, 2015, is that Mr. Agyapong and Nana Poku, are friends to Ibrahim Mahama; a younger brother of President John Mahama, and could be leaking NPP’s 2016 campaign strategies to the governing NDC, as a result of what he called the “Afoko-Kwabena-Ibrahim triangle”.
The Tamale-born Musah Superior, mentioned National Security as his source of information. He claimed that, Ibrahim Mahama, has kept some journalists on his payroll with a “Special Slush Fund” whom he uses to destroy the NPP, based on information fed him by Mr. Agyapong’s boys, including Nana Poku. He alleged that, the said Nana Poku, was always in Ibrahim’s house.
But Musah Superior’s sudden dislike for Mr. Agyapong, is surprising to many, as he is known to have greatly been supported financially by the embattled General Secretary. It was mentioned that, Mr. Agyapong, while working with his ex-aide, rented an apartment for him, and supported him in many ways to make life comfortable for him after returning from the United Kingdom (UK) with nothing.
It was disclosed that, while seeking the mandate of the NPP, Mr. Agyapong, campaigned with Musah Superior, despite red flags from his hometown of Tamale in the Northern Region. Mr. Agyapong, announced that he was part of his team, Musah’s own people spoke ill of him, and wished that he was not part of the campaign team, but he was made to stay onboard.
Again, this paper is informed that, Musah Superior, led the famous change of guard at the party’s headquarters at Asylum Down in Accra, which resulted in scuffle between the dreaded “Invincible Forces” and men he brought to take over from the “Invincible Forces”.
When Mr. Superior was being accused at the time, party sources say, Mr. Agyapong, stood by his aide, and never gave up on him.
The two other petitioners were Member of Parliament (MP) for Adanse Asokwa, Kwabena Tahir Hammond, and one Owusu Ansah, a native of Kumawu in the Ashanti Region.
Owusu Ansah, is said to be under the sponsorship of one Opoku Adusei.
Mr. Agyapong’s crime according to the MP is that, he had lied to NEC that he, KT, was going into the NPP parliamentary primaries unopposed, an accusation that was rubbished by the Committee.
Another charge against the NPP chief scribe is that, he was responsible for the misunderstanding that ensued at Manhyia North Constituency in the Ashanti Region, which resulted in a court action.
However, it is on record that the former General Secretary, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, popularly known as Sir John, caused the problem, before leaving power.
Meanwhile, The Herald, is learning that the decision to have these men suspended, is as a result of suggestion by one of Nana Addo’s trusted friends, whose name this paper will like to withhold for now.
