Sunyani, the Brong Ahafo Region regional capital, on Monday October 24, 2016, hosted officials of the National Investment Bank (NIB), to launch the bank’s Retail Credit and SME Week.
The objective of the week-long celebration according to the bank, was to recognize the growing importance of SMEs to the bank, the nation’s development and also to promote, the bank’s SME products and services.
It was also to deepen the bank’s relationship with their SME customers among others.The bank officials who were led to the region by their Managing Director (MD), John Kweku Asamoah, are scheduled to end the celebration with a cocktail in Kumasi this Saturday.
Other activities scheduled for the week include, Pitch-a-tent campaign at all Branches, Focus Group Discussion, Management Visit to Customers and a Health Walk.
In a statement, Kweku Asamoah said, the decision to set aside the Retail Credit and SME week, showed the bank’s committment and dedication to continue to serve their customers to grow their businesses to higher height.
“This is a manifestation of our commitment to continue to serve you and our dedication to nurture your businesses”, he said.
He touted the successes chalked by the bank in the last two years saying the bank has revamped it SME lending aside the SME clientele becoming very vibrant within the same period.
Today, our Retail Credit and SME clientele has become very vibrant than two (2) years ago. We have revamped our SME lending and as at September 30th 2016, SME Loans constituted about 15% of our total loan portfolio”
The introduction of the Retail and Customer Loan Financing Scheme two years ago has enableed their customers and non-customers alike, to purchase household items, as well as building materials, at competitive prices and at no interest rate.
Having won an award with this product at the CIG Banking Awards as the 1st Runner up in Household and Retail Banking Category, the MD said they are not complecent but “We are poised to continue to explore innovative ways to serve you our cherished SME Customers better. We have automated our SME Loan processing and delivery in a bid to serve you better.
Our turnaround time has improved with respect to loan processing. Indeed, we are able to do same day approval and disbursement if all supporting documents are in place”.This year’s programme is themed “Still Taking Retail Credit and SME Banking to your doorstep”.
One of the activities, “focus group discucussions” he said would help the bank solicit first-hand information on challenges of the SMSs and also, assist the bank on how best it can solve them. Every branch of NIB throughout the country would organize these events for SME customers. The visits were to enable them deepen the relationship with customers. Other Relationship Officers he revealed have been assigned to all SME customers.
“We would establish a fully serviced SME Center in Suame, Ashanti to be responsible for Credit delivery operations by the end of the year. This Center will serve the Ashanti, Brong Ahafo and the three regions in the North. The essence is to enhance our Credit delivery process to our customers in these regions and to better serve the regions.
According to Mr. Kweku Asamoah, Brong Ahafo Region, was very important to the bank as it is known for large cocoa production and agribusiness industry, mentioning vibrant market towns such as Techiman, Dormaa Ahenkro and Berekum.
‘A lot of businesses revolve around these towns and there are lots of SME businesses here. We therefore hold you in high esteem and would always deliver on our promises to you.
I can assure you that, your relationship with us going forward will not be the same. The Bank is for you and do not hesitate to call on us with your credit needs. We, on our part, shall endeavour to deliver on those needs”, he assured all the SMSs present.
