..And Drags Him To Police Station
By Alfred Dogbey
The office and stores of Mr. Emmanuel Mensah, the Kasoa Branch Chairman of the Awutu-Senya East National Democratic Congress (NDC), and the leader of the group calling for the removal of the current Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Kasoa has been burgled by some unknown assailants, raising down his entire business.
Mr. Mensah, a car battery wholesaler and businessman was robbed on June 21 this year, exactly three days after the chairman led a teeming party group at a press conference, demanding the removal of Mr. Adams Nuhu, their MCE over alleged misconducts and gross disrespect for the chiefs and elders.
Hundreds of goods, including brand new car batteries worth over GH¢ 70, 000, as well as, a cash of GH¢ 1,600 and vital documents were looted.
After the criminal act, the yet-to-be-identified thieves after breaking and looting the goods in the store wrote “Fool Don’t Try” on the walls of his office.
The visibly traumatized businessman told The Herald that he feels unsafe to walk freely or live in his own house, adding, “my life with that of my wife and children are in danger”.
The matter has since been reported to the police.
The Kasoa New Market Police Commander; Inspector Dodzi told The Herald that his outfit had already started investigations into the incident.
However, although no arrest has been made, the visibly troubled ardent NDC chairman told The Herald that he believed the attack on him was masterminded by some individuals within the party in the Constituency.
Mr. Mensah said, he particularly suspects the MCE of being behind the incident and stated it in his police statement, because of the press conference which he held against the MCE.
He told this reporter that, the Constituency Chairman Alhaji Habib Dramani, who had never visited him at his office before visited him the night before the break-in, but since the incidence happened, he is yet to show up to solarised with him, even though he personally informed him about the incident on phone, while at the police station to lodge complain.
According to Mr. Mensah, the blatant intolerance which exists in some political parties in the country has gradually found its way and manifested itself in the Awutu-Senya East Constituency through the actions of some of their leaders.
Meanwhile, some other Branch and Constituency Executives of the party have also reiterated their call to President John Mahama, not to retain the (MCE), claiming any attempt by the president to maintain the MCE would dwindle the fortunes of the party in the area.
They also vowed to oppose the imposition of Mr. Nuhu on the people, stressing that they would join other interested groups to protest against President Mahama, since the party deserves the best.
They indicated that the party in the municipality was facing numerous problems due to the lackadaisical attitude and the unguided statements of the MCE.
Spokesperson for the executives, Alhaji Yakubu Uman, said that the people in Kasoa voted against the MCE in 2012 Parliamentary election, due to his posture and abysmal performance during his tenure.
Alhaji Uman said that the MCE adopted divide and rule tactics in his administration and succeeded in marginalizing the rank and file of the party in the area.
“Our path has been characterized by series of communist inferior tactics including acrimony, intrigue, disrespect for authority, pretence, gossip and many others,” he said.
He expresses worry about the way in which the MCE refused to rehabilitate a 360 kilometre road within the municipality, although he claimed he had awarded the contract for the construction of all roads.
However, when The Herald contacted the MCE, he declined to comment, stating that at this stage he wouldn’t grant any interview or speak on any issue, but would only do that when the President releases the name of the MCE for consideration.
