The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ashanti Region, has vowed to henceforth give the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) Ashanti Regional chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako a taste of his own medicine if he continues to tell lies and pour invectives on former President John Dramani Mahama.
The largest opposition party, is outraged over the man who is notoriously known as chairman Wontumi’s unwarranted attacks on the former President for cheap and parochial political interest.
According to the NDC, it will no longer sit down unconcerned for Wontumi whom they described as a “dimwitted fellow” to denigrate the reputation of Mr Mahama, who has been reelected as the party’s flagbearer, by a man “reputed for reckless talk”.
“However, we wish to assure him that he will no longer have a field day to churn out his trademark reckless lies”, the party has said.
The NDC’s outburst is a reply to an unwarranted attack on the former President and his later father E. A Mahama, by Chairman Wontumi during a radio interview in Kumasi this week.
According to reports, the NPP stalwart on ASH FM, a radio station owned by the NPP’s Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central Ken Agyapong, said “President John Mahama is a corrupt thief just like his father, Mr. E.A Mahama, who was an Agric Minister in Nkrumah’s administration”.
But the Ashanti NDC which finds his comments as distasteful and unbecoming of a party regional chairman, said Wontumi even goofed in the first place in his attempt to blow down the former President’s candle to bring his and the NPP up.
A statement signed by the regional Communication Officer Abass Nurudeen
said Mr. E. A Mahama was never the Agriculture Minister under Dr Kwame Nkrumah’s administration and went on to name the four individuals who served as Agric Minister during the first government after independence.
Rather, the statement said if Chairman Wontumi whom the statement described as “doltish and unintelligent” had done his checks well, he would have found out that nowhere in that administration did the former President father served in that capacity.
“At no point did Mr. Emmanuel Adama Mahama, father of the Former President, serve as Agric Minister of the Republic of Ghana as is being alleged by Wontomi. So for this basic historical fact to be lost on a whole Regional Chairman of the Npp speaks volumes of the misinformed character we are talking about here.
In fact, Mr Emmanuel Adama Mahama was the first person to be appointed Minister of Northern Ghana under Nkrumah and also served as an advisor to Dr. Hilla Limann, President of the 3rd Republic. At no point in his public life was he even investigated for the slightest form of corruption. So in the eyes of right-thinking Ghanaians, he was a very selfless and incorruptible man who served his nation with distinction and dignity”, Nureedeen” said.
