Bryan Acheampong mentioned as holding kitty….
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) goes to the polls this weekend to elect national officers, who will steer the affairs of the largest opposition group for the next four years.
However, a day to the congress, which comes off at the Accra International Trade Fair Centre La, Accra, reports picked up by The Herald suggest that, government is using the National Security to sponsor some of the aspirants, who are contesting various national executive positions within the opposition party.
The National Security, is executing this task allegedly using a Minister of State in Charge of National Security, Bryan Achampong, who doubles as Member of Parliament (MP) for Abetifi.
Mr Acheampong, is expected to give these aspirants moneys and gifts.
According to sources, while some of the huge money is already gone, a lot more will exchange hands today between Mr Acheampong and his team on one side, and the said NDC aspirants, to buy out votes and get elected as national executive members of the party.
They are to serve as spies for the NPP and National Security to be leaking vital information, documents and party strategies to the Akufo-Addo government at the expense of the NDC.
The NPP, this paper is learning, has clearly chosen some of these aspirants, who they believe can be manipulated to serve as conduits after they have been helped to win the NDC contest.
The motive, is to be in fair control of every activity that will go on within the NDC and so doing, cripple it effectiveness in the governance of the country, ahead of the 2020 general elections. It is also to weaken its attractiveness as an alternative government.
The names of the aspirants in touch of the National Security, Jubilee House and the NPP, who will be receiving these moneys to buy votes at the congress ground tomorrow are making the rounds within the top echelons of the governing party.
There have also been secret phone recordings made of some of these aspirants.
The Herald is for now withholding some of the names of these aspirants for obvious reasons.
Tomorrow’s event will see the National Chairmanship being contested fiercely by Dan Abodakpe, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, Betty Mould Idrissu, Hudu Yahaya, Danny Annan.
The General Secretary position is being contested by incumbent, Johnson Asiedu Nketia and his deputy Koku Anyidoho, while the National Organizer slot is being contested by Joshua Akamba, Anita De Sooso, Baba Jamal, Solomon Nkansah and Yaw Boateng Gyan. National Communication Officer Position is being competed for by Sammy Gyamfi and Fred Agbenyo.
Meanwhile, additional information intercepted by this paper, indicates that some elements within the NDC top hierarchy, are pushing for the change of date for the party’s much anticipated flagbearership contest slated for next month. Details are sketchy.
Their motive is not yet known, but sources say the said bigwigs are pushing for April as the new congress month, which defeats or is contrary to the party’s Constitution, which says that flagbearer be elected two clear years before the general elections.
This agenda, which is vehemently being kicked against, comes at a time when candidates, vying to be elected as flagbearer, have spent money, resources and time, to campaign vigorously across the length and breadth of the country to fight this course.
Some of the poised frontrunner candidates are former President John Mahama, Dr. Ekow Spio Garbrah, Goosie Tanoh, Alban Bagbin, Prof. Joshua Alabi, and Sly Mensah.
