At Ledzokuku NPP Meeting
What was supposed to be a family meeting among members of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ledzokuku Constituency, nearly turned bloody, after a gun was fired by a member of the party’s Invisible Forces, who currently works with the National Security outfit.
Simon Narh, has been mentioned as the name of the shooter.
He is alleged to have stated elsewhere that, he drove to the venue of the meeting, because he had information that his boss, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Ledzokuku, Dr. Oko Boye, was under attack, a claim which has been fiercely denied.
He was confronted by some party members, who rushed on him after the gunshots, questioning him about his action.
This confrontation almost degenerated, but calm was later brought to the place, following which the meeting was brought to an abrupt end.
Eyewitnesses say, the MP, was never under any attack, as the youth who held just a single placard supporting the youth organizer, stood at a distance.
The shooter, said to be a bodyguard of Dr. Oko Boye, is alleged to have fired the gun to disperse the angry youth, who stormed there to support the party’s Youth Organizer, Dennis Tetteh.
Simon, together with his colleagues, provides security to the MP, this paper has gathered.
A source said “They are the people, who provide him security everywhere he goes”.
According to an eyewitness who spoke to The Herald, the gun wielder, was not part of the meeting, but stormed the venue purposely to fire the shot at the youth.
The MP is reported to have confirmed the incident, but adds that, although he heard the sound of the gunshot, he was unable to confirm who did.
The Youth Organizer is aspiring to be the next Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for LEKMA, but he is being opposed by the first time legislator, who sees him as a threat to his seat in 2020.
As a result, the medical doctor turned politician, who Dennis, vigorously campaigned to ensure that he snatched the seat from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Benita Sena Okity Dua, according to report, has reportedly refused to reciprocate the kind gesture by supporting Dennis.
The MP is alleged to have presented people of his choice; one Nathaniel Ayertei, domiciled abroad who is unknown to the party, just to ensure Dennis does not get the nod.
It was this action that angered party folk, leading to them gathering at the meeting to show their unflinching support to Dennis.
According to party sources, the MP is vehemently against Dennis’ candidature, and is doing all he can to ensure he does not get the nod.
His action, according to insiders, has shocked Dennis, after supporting him through and through.
The MP’s desperation, is said to be so intense that he won’t mind, even if the next MCE comes from Krowor – the Nungua area.
This has brought some kind of frosty relationship between the two executives of the party in the Constituency.
Last Sunday’s meeting was part of a series of meetings by the party to get a diligent candidate for the position.
Two Constituencies Ledzokuku and Krowor make up LEKMA, where the position of MCE rotates.
In recent past, the late President John Mills, appointed Daniel Amartey Mensah from Teshie.
He was succeeded by Seth Badu Tawiah, who was appointed by ex-president John Mahama.
It is envisaged that, the new MCE, will come from Teshie and Dennis an assemblyman, a product of the Kwame University of Science and Technology (KNUST) is highly tipped for the position.
