The members of the Nassara Club, the Moslem and Zongo wing of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Friday August 22, 2014, offered special prayers for the leadership of the party at a colourful ceremony in Pig Farm, a suburb in Accra.
The ceremony, was at the instance of the Greater Accra Regional executives of the club and attended by Alhaji Maiga, the founder of the club, Mr Prince Obeng, the Greater Accra regional NPP Youth Organizer, Mr Archibald Cobbinah, the Regional Organizer, Alhaji Kamal Deen, the National Coordinator of Nassara and some Imams.
Speaking at the ceremony, Alhaji Aminu Abu, the Regional Nassara Coordinator, called for cessation of hostilities among the executives.
He urged the rank and file of the party to support the current leadership of the UP tradition.
He urged his colleagues to continue to pray for the National Chairman, who is now the leader of the party.
He said, what the party needed now is for the various officers to cease fire and dialogue over some of the issues ahead of the Sunday August 31, Super Delegates Conference to prune down the number of aspirants for the election of a flag bearer of the 2016 elections.
Delivering a statement prepared by the regional office of the club, Alhaji Baba Seidu, the Regional Secretary, condemned the violent attacks that took place at the National quarters of the party on Tuesday August 19, 2014.
When the Chairman, Mr Paul Afoko and the General Secretary, Mr Kwabena Agyepong, held a press conference to react to issues making the rounds in the media about the sacking of Mr Opare Hammond, the former Director of Finance and Perry Okudjeto, the Acting Director of
Communication, who was also asked to proceed on a two-year accumulated leave, after serving the party for four years.
The group condemned the violent incident that took place at the party’s office and called on the rank and file to support the leadership of the party.
According to him, what took place at the party office was a dent in the history of the party that is touted as the apostles of democracy.
On his part, the founder of the club, Alhaji Maiga, commended the group for the initiative and called on them to pledge their unflinching support for the party and its leadership.
