Greater Accra regional youth wing of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), has called on the leadership of the party to let common sense and peace prevail by the acclaiming Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo the flagbearer for the 2016 presidential elections.
About one hundred youth last week, stormed the Greater Accra Regional office of the NPP, chanting no ‘Nana No vote’ for 2016. They were clad in red bands and wearing “T” Shirts with the inscription ‘shei Nana’.
Speaking on behalf of the youth, Mr Benjamin Owusu, Greater Accra regional Director of Communications of the party suggested that the NPP can win 2016 elections with only one candidate who is tried and tested.
They contend that ex- president, John Agyekum Kufour, should use his influence in the party to call other aspirants to order and let common sense prevail in the spirit of winning power by allowing Nana Addo to go unopposed
He said, information they are picking has it that the grass root supporters want an acclamation at the Congress and not a contest.
“The question bugling the minds of many of the foot soldiers who constitute majority of the voter population are complaining ‘why change the winning candidate”.
He warned the National Executive Committee and the National Council that they will work to stop any contest of presidential primary and present one candidate, whom the party people want.
We are prepared to resist anybody, who works or acts against our interests. We will fight persons who have amassed wealth through their contacts with the ruling National Democratic congress (NDC), and now want to use such ill wealth to deny the party victory in 2016.
He averred that they would stand together to fight any such persons, Constitution or Constitution.
He called on the newly elected national Youth Organizer and all regional youth Organizers that they were elected to represent the interest of the youth of the party and nothing else.
He explained that the national executives, were not for any faction or personality.
We will not tolerate youth Organizers who will become “yes men” to NEC he warned.
He advised late –comers, who are seeking to engage in what can be considered an unnecessary contest, that they will be doing their political professional great disservice, should they continue along that path.
“Any act by any individual which seeks to undermine the party’ cardinal mission of unity or victory 2016, will be viewed as an act of the future
of the youth of this country. To these people, whose personal political ambition has clouded their vision of the party’s mission of unity for victory we say step down; you cannot win if we do not support you”
