The man who needs no introduction, the man who has lived his life, with the hope of leading this country, for which reason he took part in almost all the demonstrations staged in this country in our march towards the restoration of democracy.
Do you want a clue, okay, he is the twice defeated Presidential candidate of a major political party, he is old and worn out, he is a lawyer of many years of good standing and had mentored many lawyers in this country, he has declared his intention to run again for the flagbearer ship of his party, when it opens nomination.
You still do not know him, then am sorry you were born only yesterday, but I will still do you a favour, he is no other than Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, whose father was a one- time ceremonial President during the Second Rpublic, when Dr. Kofi Abrefa Busia was the Prime Minister.
Nana Addo want to go beyond his father’s achievement and actually got the mandate of the people, but that dream eluded him since 1996, when he first staked a claim to lead his party into that year’s election.
My admonition today has to do with why the man always gets ahead of himself. Yours truly, have read on various news portals that Nana Addo had sent a congratulatory message to the newly elected Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi. When I saw the news, the first thing I said was, there he goes again, making himself relevant, where he has no locus.
What is the capacity of Nana Addo, in the New Patriotic Party (NPP), he is just a former flagbearer, and he ceased to be the leader of the party, when he lost the 2012 Presidential election. He is an ordinary member of the party , who must not overstep his bounds.
I cannot take away his right to congratulate whoever he deems fit, but must this require him issuing a statement?
Nana Addo, had just returned from South Africa, where he went as the leader of the Common Wealth observer mission, to observe the just ended election that retained the Africa National Congress (ANC).
I thought, he might have learnt some lessons, the first is that going by what happened in South Africa, it means the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is on its way to winning the next election and that will effectively mean that Nana Addo, will be saying goodbye to his long held dream.
An appointment meant for former leaders and Heads of Sates, was what was given to him, he gleefully accepted it and saw nothing wrong with it.
It was a package to tell him that he has served his due and it was time to move on and enjoy his retirement that will never come, according to him, because he chose two careers that had no retirement age.
You see how clever and greedy the man is, so all these while, when the whole country thought that all that he did was to advance the cause of Ghana, it was for his own parochial interest.
God who know the heart of men, know that Nana Addo is not good for Ghana and so anytime he gets close to realizing his dream, something dramatic happens.
I have argued and I still stand by the assertion that had Nana Addo contested with the late President John Evans Atta Mills, in the 2012 elections, I can bet my last penny that the National Democratic Congress would have lost that election.
But as faith will have it, it was not to be and the man died. Nana Addo had to contend with a more affable and youthful John Dramani Mahama and he got beaten by more votes that in 2008.
I know they are going round, assuring their supporters as they did in 2012 that the election is a done deal, because the economy is not in a good shape. This was the same propaganda and false hope they gave their supporters in the run up to the last election. What they forget is that you cannot continue to market a candidate who has failed in two successive elections to deliver victory to you.
Their hope of winning the election, still hangs on Nana Addo, who has demonstrated over the years that he is not a winnable candidate.
The message that Nana Addo sent to Mr. Modi, how did he sign it, as a former flagbearer, leader of NPP, a politician or just an ordinary Ghanaian, I will like to see a copy.
The time is up for Nana, he has over stayed his political welcome, I think he must embrace his destiny and do away with his unbridled ambition of leading this country.
Everybody citizen can be President, but not all of us are cut for the job. Nana Addo is like any of us, if we all decide that by our parents telling us we can one day become Presidents or our friends or political party keep deceiving us into thinking we can be President, then they will be chaos.
Nana Addo, has already done enough harm to the cohesion of this country when he went to the Supreme Court to challenge the legitimacy of President, John Dramani Mahama.
His ambition knows no bound as the relief he was seeking in court was as absurd as he going there, that votes should be taken from the President and given to him, so he could become the President.
Alan Kwawdo Kyeremanten has said, what all well-meaning members of the NPP, have all failed to say and that is Nana Addo, will never appeal to floating voters. He is a dead horse that was living in the past.
Please Nana Addo, being a flagbearer does not put you in the bracket of former Presidents or sitting Presidents, this obsession with always getting ahead of yourself to issue statements that should be done by your party was wrong and must stop.
Former President, John Agyekum Kufuor, who was the most successful leader of the Danquah-Busia-Dombo tradition, did not even issue a statement to congratulate Modi.
