I hate to make this kind of a prediction, but as a student of politics, I see some striking similarities in the emergence of Donald Trump in American politics and the never-ending popularity of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on the conscience of Ghanaians.
Nana Addo, turned 72 on Tuesday, whiles Donald Trump, will turn 70 on June 14. Before I proceed further, I will like to take the opportunity to wish Nana Addo, a belated happy birthday, may his dream of governing this country, never see the light of day.
Like Donald Trump, an ego-driven Nana Addo, believe there is no other person in his country better or smarter than him.
These believe makes the two men very dangerous in my estimation. Nana Addo, has tried to block out all new ideas, because he is too much in love
with his own ideas like most dictators we have read about.
Nana Addo defends his right to immediately return fire for fire and to demonize all of his opponents as weaklings and lightweights.
A Nana Addo or Donald Trump presidency is the last thing I want to see, but it may happen if care is not taken and if right thinking and well-meaning citizens of the two countries, do not find an antidote to the two loose cannons.
If you dare say anything bad about Nana Addo, not only will you be shred into pieces, you risk being suspended if you are in the party.
He can walk back on any of the lies he has told at any time without any feeling of shame.
Nana Addo, could be more dangerous than Donald Trump, because he can sell you a dead cockroach and make you believe you hit a jackpot.
He believes, like Donald Trump, that a falsehood repeated over and over again with the persistence of a demon is often accepted as the truth sooner or later. Nana Addo is not a multi-millionaire like Donald Trump, but he was a genius in make-believe.
Some leading members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), know that Nana Addo, is leading to their destruction, they, nonetheless, could not resist his leadership and he has taken advantage of them by making them believe they were superior than any other person, who does not share in their ideology and conviction.
This is what Donald Trump is promising the people of America.
He says he is going to build a wall and make the Mexicans pay for it. He says he is going to make America great again by doing what no other president before him has ever done, because he claims he is the best negotiator in the world, who can make his opponents sign their death warrant.
He said that if he shot somebody on 5th Avenue in New York, he could walk away free because the people loved him too much and that those who have been foolhardy enough to challenge or talk ill of him have gone down in the polls while he keeps winning.
He dares the whole Republican establishment just like he has dared the whole of Islam, even when he knew it was a war he could never win.
Listen to what Nana Addo too is promising Ghanaians
Nana Addo, is promising all-die-be-die, he will ensure that, this country will burn, if he does not realize his life-long dream. He is promising to go after anybody, who does not agree with him, if you doubt him, the curtain raiser was that of Paul Afoko, Kwabena Agyepong and Sammy Crabbe.
He is promising to reintroduce teachers and nurses allowance, yet he has not told us, how he intends to raise that money and how that will affect our Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
Nana Addo, is promising to bring mercenaries to deal with his opponents, God forbid, should he become president.
If he is elected president, he was going to turn water into wine and day light into utter darkness.
The one million dollar question is, how do you stop such men from becoming the leaders of these two nations?
The simple, yet complicated answer is, just let the people know what they are up against and to where they could lead them when the rubber meets the road.
From everything I have enumerated, it is obvious these two are rubble rousers; they are noise makers and loose cannon. One was born with a silver spoon in his mouth; the other made his fortune through con.
This year’s election is looking to be an interesting one; I will call it the rumble in the jungle. It is going to be the roughest presidential contest both countries have seen in recent time.
Both Hillary Rodham Clinton and President John Dramani Mahama, are the best the two countries can bet on.
Both Nana Addo and Donald Trump are going to throw everything, including the kitchen sink at President Mahama and Hillary, God forbid, should their ploy succeed, the world will never be a safer place for anyone of us.
