According to The Herald’s sources at the secret meeting, Dr. Apraku stormed the region yesterday and held a meeting with some carefully selected NPP followers he believe could help him become the next NPP Presidential Candidate for the 2016 general elections.
The meeting took place inside a hotel called, Arafin Hotel at Pedu Junction in Cape Coast, and all the attendees were made to put off their phones fearing his voice might be recorded and leaked to his other competitors in the NPP race.
The Herald is informed that the incumbent Regional Organizer of the NPP, by name Percy, and one Adjei Baffour, handpicked Dr. Apraku’s preferred party officers, who would be serving as his coordinators in the Central Region to push forward his presidential bid.
The two-hour secret meeting which started at 12pm and ended at 2pm, was attended by party representatives from all the 23 Constituencies in the region. In all, a total of 30 party members attended the meeting as some Constituencies were represented by two individuals.
Dr. Apraku who was said to have been introduced to the gathering by the Regional Organizer, in his opening remarks said that his main reason for coming was to encourage and task them as his selected Coordinators, to work hard to ensure that in the up-coming NPP polling station elections,
candidates who were sympathetic to his course were elected.
He indicated to the attendees that his determination to enter into the race, stems from the fact that, there has been continuous disunity among the party faithful owning to individuals loyalty to two personalities, the immediate past flagbearer of the party, Nana Addo and a past
presidential hopeful, Alan Kyeremanten.
According to him, he sees himself as a neutral person who is the finest candidate to bring party unity, to enable them wrestle power from the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Despite Nana Addo’s ‘baggage’, Dr. Apraku said that he has worked with him and so he would be prepared to work with him, should he decide to contest the third time and wins at the Congress.
He was said to have come to the meeting with one man who sources say was his driver, and after given them their “transportation” he promised to come back.
This will be the second time the ex-Member of Parliament (MP) for Offinso South Constituency in the Ashanti Region, is going to contest the flagbearership slot, after he took part in the 2007 primary of the party, where 17 candidates contested but lost to Nana Addo.
