Story: Mckyntosh Essuman Aidoo, Tamale
The National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) has been given assurance of continuous support from personnel of the Ghana Armed Forces in times of disasters and other occurrences; whether on land, sea or in the air.
The Deputy Minister of Defence, Ebenezer Okletey Terlarbi, made the remark during the NADMO Coordinators conference in Tamale said the Ghana Armed Forces has codenamed one of its operations ‘Operation Boafo’ with the objective of collaborating with NADMO and other agencies to manage disasters and provide relief assistance to victims.
“The 48 Engineers Regiment has a disaster management detachment permanently on standby during rainy season to offer immediate assistance when needed”, Mr. Terlarbi noted.
He further recounted how some Military facilities, such as the 37 Military Hospital and Ghana Air Force aircraft, has either facilitated the management of victims of disasters or evacuating disaster victims to safety or to hospital on various occasions.
This assurance is timely and would go a long way to allay fears of many Ghanaians and property owners as the country seems to be falling short in its disaster management practices.
