On July 25, 2012, the country lost one of its illustrious son, who has dedicated all his life to the service of this country, John Evans Atta Mills, was committed to mother earth.
Every year, a memorial lecture is organized in his honor, president Akufo-Addo, is yet to attend or even make a comment about it.
His final resting place the Asomdwe park, has been left to the vagaries of the weather, a place that is supposed to be a tourist site and a solemn place for well-meaning Ghanaians, who want to know who a selfless leader is, has been abandoned.
Yet, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, who until he became president, never celebrated any of his family members, suddenly with the benefit of being head of state, wants to elevate his family above everyone else.
The malady begun with the declaration that Ghana, was not founded by Dr. kwame Nkrumah. This declaration has been acclaimed all over the world that, Dr. Nkrumah, was the founder of our great nation, but not to Akufo-Addo and his kinsmen, who are trying desperately to rewrite the history of this country.
In May this year, speaking at the launch of an Endowment Fund as part of University of Ghana’s 70th Anniversary, the president said, “how felicitous was that decision and how greatly, it has contributed to the growth of modern Ghana.
“It will be wholly appropriate and not at all far-fetched to describe Joseph Boakye Danquah as the founder of this University.”
More than 60 years after Independence and 70 years after UG was founded, president Akufo-Addo, told Ghanaians that, the institution was founded by his uncle.
The focus, has now shifted to Dr. Kofi Abrefa Busia, ex-prime minister from 1969-1972. State resources are going to be used to celebrate a man, whose contribution to the socio-economic development of this country, cannot be pointed to.
The president, will be gracing the occasion and as we mentioned earlier, he has never made time to attend the lectures of ex-president Mills.
As a father of the nation, we are of the considered opinion that, he should rise above the craze for elevating his family above all.
