The Deputy National Chief Imam of Ahlu –Sunna–Waljamaát (ASWAJ) in Charge of Daáwa and Education, and the Ashanti Regional Chief Imam, Sheikh Mohammed Kamil Mohammed, has stressed the need for Muslims to pursue secular education, in addition to Islamic Knowledge.

That, he said, was the only way they could develop their potential and contribute to the development of their communities and the nation as a whole.

Sheikh Mohammed Kamil, made the call during Idul- Fitr (Prayers) at the Old Tafo Methodist School Park in Kumasi.

He is the Director of the AL-AZHARIYA ISLAMIC SCHOOLS (Primary, JHS and SHS) at Old Tafo in Kumasi.

Reading the Sermon (Khutba), Sheikh Mohammed Kamil said, many Muslims lived in abject poverty, mainly as a result of their lack of education.

He indicated that secular education was allowed in Islam and stressed that since English was the official language in the country, it was in excusable for Muslims not to learn it.

Eid-Ul-Fitr is celebrated after 29 or 30-days period of fasting in the month of Ramadan.

According to Islamic teachings, all Muslims who observe the fast and pray on the day of Eid-Ul-Fitr, will have their sins forgiven.

He urged Muslims to continue to exhibit the virtue of love, patience and tolerance and what they have acquired in the month of Ramadan, for the rest of the year and beyond.

The Deputy Chief Imam of ASWAJ, said the outcome of the Supreme Court verdict on the 2012 Presidential Election Petition, must be accepted in good faith, and lamented about Muslim youth allowing themselves to be used by hungry politicians and engaged them as thugs to visit mayhem on their perceived political opponents.

“I am pleading with everyone to respect the verdict of the court, what is important is the need to keep our nation peaceful and prosperous,” Kamil said.

He, therefore, appealed to the youth to use the Ramadan to strengthen their faith and turn over a new leaf.

“One cannot go through 30days of fasting and submit to Allah’s will. Only to go back to violence and crime after fasting,” he emphasized.

Touching on recent fire outbreaks in the country, the Islamic Scholar said, if it is Allah’s will, then he prayed for the seizure and if it is a Sabotage, he prayed to Allah to expose, the perpetrators.

Sheikh Mohammed Kamil Mohammed prayed to God to empower President John Dramani Mahama to continue with good work by the late President John Evans Attah Mills.

He also prayed for Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the King of Ashanti, Nana Agyen Frimpong, the Tafohene, Asanteman and the Nation, for long life, and prosperity and to Allah for peace and tranquility.
