Controversial musician Wanlov the Kubolor, who went nude with M3nsa in a photo that surfaced on several social networking sites last month, has described the condemnation of the photo by the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) as a joke.
Wanlov and ‘partner in crime’ M3nsa went completely nude in a sensational photo taking moment at a beautiful mangrove outside the country.
MUSIGA condemned Wanlov the Kubolor and M3nsa for posing nude in a photo, calling the development “unfortunate.”
Commenting on the photo, Ahuma Ocansey, Administrator at MUSIGA told Joy News, “The pictures are in bad taste. Artistes do all sorts of things for various reasons. Some to enhance their popularity and things like that but in a nutshell, I would say that it is rather unfortunate.”
Asked if the musicians’ body will take any action against the artiste, the MUSIGA Administrator said that was unlikely.
“As a matter of fact, MUSIGA might not necessarily take any punitive measure against them because in this era of freedom of expression, we will only appeal to their sensibilities and encourage them to be more measured in how they approach their marketing and publicity,” he suggested.
But speaking in his first major interview after the incident on Allo Tigo hosted by Jon Germain on Metro TV over the weekend, Wanlov said MUSIGA cannot take any action against them because they are not members of the musicians’ body.
“MUSIGA is a joke to us. It’s a big joke so for them to even talk is like going to a different school and the headmistress of another school is telling you they are coming to punish you; it doesn’t even make any sense,” he said.
“For them to come and say we condemn them but we won’t punish them… how would you have punished us?” the Afro-Gypsy musician quizzed and retorted, “you are already punishing Ghanaians”.
Narrating how the nude found its way into the public domain, Wanlov said: “We went to Finland – we did two shows there – and in between the shows we went to the country side to sauna. So we [went] to the sauna, we jumped into the lake and then sauna you do it naked…and we started taking pictures because we were feeling free out there so we wanted memories.”
“M3nsa felt so liberated that I said I can imagine what will happen if I put it on instagram and M3nsa felt excited and put on instagram,” he added.
Wanlov said M3nsa later revealed that he was bombarded with countless number of phone calls after posting the photo.
Obour is inexperienced!
Touching on the current MUSIGA administration led by Bice Osei Kuffour, Obour, the FOKN Bois member said he believes the president of musicians’ body is inexperienced.
“We wanted [Gyedu Blay] Ambolley to win the presidency of MUSIGA because we know his background he lived in California for some years, he knows the royalties system and he is really a musician in totality so we knew he would fight for us,” he said.
According to him, “Obour is a good guy but he is not experienced. He is now going to conferences [and] learning, that’s cool but then he’s surrounded himself with certain people [who are also] inexperienced”.
He said the only positive thing about the Obour administration is the Ghana Music Week celebration which was organized earlier this year.
