Following a number of fraudulent activities being perpetrated by tricksters to outwit unsuspecting public, the communication giant, MTN has put in place measures to work in collaboration with the security agencies to clamp down on such miscreants.
The move would help to restore the confidence of the subscribers in the operations of the company.
The Northern District Business Manager of the country’s leading communication organization ,Mr. James Bukari Bansitale, disclosed these to The Herald in an interview after he launched the MTN’s mobile money month celebration to mark the 5th anniversary of introduction of the mobile money.
According to him in many instances, some innocent subscribers were duped by fraudsters to the extent of asking their victims to send them( fraudsters ) number of credit cards to qualify them to redeem a prize
“Based on countless complaints we have recieved from the victims, we thought it prudent to work with the security services to flash out such criminals,” he indicated .
Mr. Basintale, urged the public to be mindful of rushing to respond to such calls or text messages, since MTN as a leading communication entity would never ask any winners of its promotion to send scratch card to the company in order to redeem their prize.
In his address to launch the mobile money month , which is on the theme, “5 years of MTN Mobile Money in Ghana: Expanding cashless payments through mobile wallet transaction ’’, he revealed that over one million MTN Mobile Money customers are on the network in Ghana with more than 6.5 million transactions recorded monthly.
Mr. Basintale, explained further that, MTN Ghana was ranked second on the list of the Mobile Money services within the MTN Group.
He said the operations under the Mobile Money was making significant impact on business transactions as it has customers base totaling 18million in 15 out of 22 operating destinations across the globe.
“Mobile Money service has made significant impact on the growth of the country’s economy’’, he noted.
Apart from the convenience it has created, Mr.Basintale said , MTN would focus on making the service to become one of the leading modes of payments in the country.
Mr. Steve Asare, the Marketing Manager of the Mobile Money. called on the subscribers of MTN to do well to hook onto the money sending service.
He said, it was the easiest means of transacting business, provided one has subscribed to the service.
He announced that during the month long celebration, deserving customers would be rewarded.
