….On Valentine’s Day Blood Donation Exercise
MTN Ghana has held the 3rd edition of its Valentine’s Day Blood Donation in four regions and successfully mobilized 625 pints of blood to support the National Blood Bank, Ridge Hospital, Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, Efia Nkwanta Hospital and Tamale Teaching Hospital. The company exceeded its target of 500 pints of blood for this year. The Foundation almost doubled what it collected during a similar exercise held last year.
Speaking at the ceremony to officially launch the blood donation exercise on Friday 14th February 2014, Mrs. Cynthia Lumor, Executive Director of MTN Ghana Foundation, expressed her profound gratitude to all MTN staff and voluntary blood donors and partners for their willingness to come out in their numbers to support such a worthy cause.
Mrs Lumor said, “According to the National Blood Bank, the national demand for safe blood for patients is more than 250,000 units annually, however only 50% of this is collected. This means that what the various donor groups donate is still not enough to save lives. This is why MTN Ghana Foundation remains focused on helping to address this need.”
This year, the MTN Foundation partnered with Ecobank, Merchant Bank, Nestle Milo, Perfecto Noodles, Coca Cola and several media organizations to organize the blood donation exercise.
MTN Ghana is committed to brightening the lives of people in communities across Ghana by giving back in diverse ways. In 2013, MTN received an award from the National Blood Bank for being the Highest Corporate Blood Donor.
