As part of measures to find a tailor-made local applications software for Mobile Telecommunication Network (MTN) subscribers, the management of the leading telecommunication company in the country, has launched a software challenged dubbed the Apps Challenge version two to motivate Ghanaian apps developers.
Speaking at the launch in Accra, the Chief Marketing Officer of MTN, Mr Rahul De, said a year ago MTN launched a challenge to look for local Apps developers who could develop relevant mobile applications for smartphone users on the network.
According to him, the company was impressed when it received a high number of entries.
He said at the end of the challenge, a young software engineer, Setriakor K. Nyomi, was adjudged the overall winner with his Oware 3D application, which has been made available on MTN play.
“The mobile application has since been uploaded on all partner devices of the company and the uptake of the apps has been impressive”
The apps market is linked with the explosion of smartphones penetration and usa page by consumers worldwide” he noted.
He added as the smartphone market grows rapidly in the country and especially on the MTN network, it was imperative that the company develops apps locally to drive the market.
He said, the competition gives people with skills and talent the opportunity to develop user friendly mobile applications.
He maintained that this year’s challenge under the theme :’promoting innovative local apps development’ is geared towards motivating the Ghanaian apps developers to do more.
He said, entries would be accepted in the following categories: education, life style, games and entertainment.
He explained that each category would have a winner, who will receive a cash prize of fifteen thousand Ghana Cedis with other consolation prizes, as well as the overall winner receiving a cash prize of twenty thousand Cedis and a course trip outside the country.
