Melcom Care Supports Five Accra Hospitals


The Melcom Care Foundation, the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) unit of Melcom Group of Companies, has donated hospital equipment and medical supply to five hospitals in the Greater Accra Region.

The beneficiary hospitals are, Ridge Hospital, Achimota Hospital, La General Hospital, Police Hospital and Ledzokuku Krowor Municipal Assembly (LEKMA) Hospital. The hospitals were presented with Wheel Chairs and crutches.

Presenting the equipment, Mr Godwin Avenorgbo, Director of Communications for Melcom Group of Companies, said as part of the twenty fifth anniversary celebrations of the company it declared a one year outreach programme of giving back to society.

He said to ensure that the celebrations impact on Ghana’s development efforts, two key areas of welfare support were identified, namely education and health.

He said because of these the foundation lent support to many needy and under privileged children through educational sponsorship project that supports such children from basic to tertiary level of education.

He said, since this declaration was made, assistance has been given to so many health institutions.

He mentioned the provision of an Ambulance to the 37 Military Hospital, renovation of the Maternity Ward of the hospital, donation of Wheel Chairs, Crutches and water purifiers to the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH), sponsorship of a Blood donation exercise campaign that yielded 639 pints of blood in support of the National Blood Service.

He expressed the hope that managers of the various hospitals, would take good care of the items donated for patients care.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiary hospitals, Madam Josephine Gyamfi, from the La General Hospital thanked the management for the gesture.

She said, the items would go a long way to boost the work of the beneficiary hospitals in the Greater Accra Region.

After a demonstration of the Unilever brand of water purifier, reporters were taken on a tour of the ultra modern bakery, which is an addition to the fruits and vegetable section of the retail lines of the shop.
