The Minister of Youth and Sports, Isaac Asiamah, together with the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the La Dadekotopon, Gladys Tsotsoo Mann-Dedey, on Wednesday cut the sod for the construction of an Astro Turf at the La Town Park by the McDan Group of Companies.
The Astro Turf, which is being constructed at the La Town Park by the Wembley Sports Construction Company LTD (WSCCL) at a cost of GH¢2million by the McDan Group, would take four months to complete.
The project adds to the many artificial parks constructed by Wembley Sports Construction Company Ltd (WSCCL), a solely owned Ghanaian company, which is currently on other sites, including Kyebi Zongo, Walewale Zongo and Madina Zongo.
The Manager of WSCCL, Nana Antwi, admonished other corporate bodies to emulate McDan and said his outfit, has an arrangement with Omnibank to support prospective clients as the company is on a project dubbed; one constituency, one artificial football park.
Nana Antwi stated “We hope that, there will be one artificial football turf in at least every constituency in Ghana.”
At the sod cutting at the La Town Park, the MCE of La Dadekotopon, Mrs. Man-Dedey, lauded the initiative of the McDan Group, to develop the area by providing the youth with an Astro Turf, which she believes would help unearth talents in the community.
She added that, her outfit entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the McDan Group to construct the Astro turf, which will cost a whopping GH¢2million to help the youth and footballers, and called on other corporate entities to emulate them.
“This is a laudable initiative and my outfit endorsed it by giving our blessing. We believe the construction of this turf would help u earth football talents and keep the youth in the community busy,” she said.
The Member of Parliament (MP) of La Dadekotopon, Vincent Sowah Odotei, embraced the good effort of the company to put up the edifice and called for good maintenance scheme, in order to sustain it after its completion.
The Minister of Youth and Sports, Isaac Asiamah, said the initiative forms part of government’s vision to ensure every community get multi-purpose Sports infrastructure.
On his part, Daniel McKorley, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of McDan Group, said he was pleased to give back to society that had impacted a lot on his life.
He explained that, being a son of the soil, it was always his pleasure to ensure the youth in La Dadekotopon, get a multipurpose sports facility to nurture their talents.
