The Micro Finance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC) has disbursed flexible loans totaling GH¢635,900.00 to 2,035 women, who are predominantly traders in the Volta Region, to empower them to expand their businesses.
Chief Executive Officer, Mrs. Sedina Tamakloe Attionu, who led the MASLOC team to the region, said the disbursement, which started last Friday, covered beneficiaries in Ho Central, Worawora, Jasikan, Hohoe, Anloga, Keta, Agortime, Kpando and Nkwanta South.
The beneficiary groups included the Amenuveve, NTIFAFA Association of Ghana, Mesiwotso, Zongo, Dodzi and others.
They are expected to repay the loans within six months and then recycled for disbursement to others.
The Chief Executive Officer of MASLOC, Mrs. Attionu ,said government was poised to empower more women to expand their businesses. “Women are the mainstay of our society; they contribute immensely to the development of the country and therefore government is well poised to support women in all endeavors.”
Mrs. Tamakloe Attionu indicated that “President John Dramani Mahama has beefed up MASLOC to ensure that we can take up the role in helping in women’s development, particularly in the areas of micro and small scale enterprise”.
She entreated the beneficiaries to utilize the loans and repay within the scheduled period.
According to the CEO, beneficiaries are beginning to understand that MASLOC loans are not “political handouts” but are meant to improve their businesses as well as enhancing their livelihood.
She indicated that the loans recovery rate is currently around 67%.
The CEO stressed that MASLOC has been doing a lot of education and awareness creation on how to repay the loan because the funds have to be recycle so other women can also benefit.
The Member of Parliament for Ho Central, Mr. Benjamin Kpodo commended Mrs. Attionu and her management for transforming the lives of Ghanaian women and appealed to the women to use the money wisely so they can repay back on time without any setback.
The beneficiaries expressed their gratitude to HE President John Dramani Mahama and MASLOC for coming to their aid at this particular moment. Other dignitaries who witnessed the loan disbursement include MP for Hohoe, Mrs. Bernice Heloo, and Mr. Clement Kofi Homado, MP for Anlo.
