For this 2013 season, MasaraN’Arziki has successfully completed the distribution of farm inputs to its members of the farmers’ association in its catchment areas.
Speaking to the media in Tamale, the General Manager of the Masara N’ Arziki Farmers Association, Mr. Luuc Smits, said inputs stocked in the various warehouses had been distributed to about 10, 000 of its members.
He commended the dedication and cooperation that Wienco and Yara have shown to the Ghanaian farmers.
He also assured members of better days ahead and appealed to them to be committed, hard working and loyal to the agreed policies.
The farm inputs are fertilizers, hybrid maize seeds and crop protection products among others. Especially this year the Associations’ farmers have enjoyed the full benefit of the Hybrid maize seeds, since these seeds are drought resistant, much more than local varieties. This helped farmers to save their crops during the weeks of drought that hit Ghana during the planting season.
With the vision of supplementing the maize deficit in Ghana, Masara N’ Arziki was conceived by both Wienco and Yara Ghana limited. The association through unflinching support of their mother companies has improved living condition of members since its inception in the year 2005.
Currently, it is recognized as the biggest maize farmers’ association in West Africa. Although it started with a modest membership of 1,500 in the year 2008, the association is currently the largest maize farmers association in West Africa, with registered members of over 10, 500 individual farmers in 2013/2014 farming season.
