The Best Ashanti Regional Agro-Chemical Seller for 2015, Mr. Gideon Seidu, has called on the government to make conscious efforts at improving farming and the agricultural sector by ensuring ready market and provide storage facility for the farm produce.
According to him, farmers deserve better recognition and support from the government, while he frowned on illegal mining by foreigners, because it tends to pollute water bodies and affect agriculture.
Speaking to this paper in an interview, Mr. Seidu, stated that, Ghana needed investors, not retailers and therefore called on the Ministry of Trade and Industry to enforce the laws, regarding retail trade involving foreign to save local businesses from collapsing.
Gideon Seidu, who is also the Kumasi Metro Best Chemical Seller for 2013, also complained that, importing goods had become difficult as a result of severe and cumbersome clearance duties and stressed that, goods which are duty free, always end up being sold at higher prices.
Mr. Seidu, who expressed concern over the relaxed enforcements of trade laws, assured that his company “Aboboyaa” which has been in existence for the past eight years, would continue to make quality and unadulterated agro inputs affordable and accessible to farmers to improve upon output in the sector.
He added that, his company, would continue to embark on education to educate the farmers on the need to apply the right chemical to their produce for maximum benefits.
