As Car Bribery Allegation Collapses, Outspoken Bugri Naabu Runs Away, President Exonerated
Mrs. Hawa Agyemang Mahama, a younger sister of President John Mahama, has threatened legal actions against the Spokesperson of Nana Akufo-Addo, Mustapha Hamid, for linking her to a company she knows nothing about.
Hamid, yesterday claimed that the President and one of his younger brothers; businessman, Ibrahim Mahama, tried bribing the New Patriotic Party
(NPP) Northern Regional Chairman, Daniel Bugri Naabu, with a car and a cash amount of GH¢3.3 million, to destroy his own party from within.
Strangely, the outspoken NPP Northern Regional Chairman, did not attend the press conference to respond to questions from selected journalists on the bribes allegedly offered on October 28, 2016.
He has since not answered his phone calls. But the NPP’s Nasara Coordinator, Kamal-Deen Abdulai on Asempa FM, later explained that, Daniel Bugri Naabu, had been engaged in the Northern Region on NPP activities.
But immediately after the NPP Press conference, Mrs. Agyemang-Mahama, in a telephone conversation, described Hamid’s claims as “a huge joke” insisting she has nothing to do with Marlin Investments Company; the firm company, which he and the NPP, had mentioned as the importers of the said car.
The businesswoman, who according to Hamid was director of the Marlin Investments Company, also insisted that she does not know, Frank Nuhu Alormasor, who Hamid, had claimed was a co-director of the said company, adding she does not know Daniel Bugri Naabu.
According to her, she has a relative by name, Frank Alor, not Frank Nuhu Alormansor, but has no business relationship with him.
Mrs. Agyemang-Mahama, who kept laughing throughout the conversation with The Herald, could not fathom why NPP woul be using her in their political communication a week to the presidential elections. She described herself as private person, who keeps to herself away from the political limelight.
She told this paper she was reaching out to her lawyers for the necessary legal advice, but she is sure to head to the court to clear her name.
Attempts to reach Ibrahim Mahama, proved futile as he as usual, did not answer the phone calls. But The Herald is informed that, Daniel Bugri Naabu, is a well known face in the Ibrahim Mahama household. The two men, have been friends for many years long before, Daniel Bugri Naabu, became the NPP Northern Regional Chairman.
According to insiders, the last time Daniel Bugri Naabu and Ibrahim Mahama met was at the former’s daughter’s funeral.
Meanwhile, The Herald’s findings are that on the day President Mahama, was mentioned to have met Daniel Bugri Naabu in the company of Ibrahim Mahama, he was rather in the Eastern Region on a six-day tour of that Region.
On October 28, 2016, President Maham,a was before, the Chief of Aburi in the Eastern Region, Otubour Gyan Kwasi, has endorsed his candidature ahead of the crucial upcoming December 7, general elections.
According to him, he’s convinced that the President needs another term of office as he’s ensure that the Aburi township has gotten its fair share of developmental projects that has been undertaken by the Mahama administration.
Speaking at his palace during the courtesy call on him by President Mahama and his entourage as part of his tour of the Eastern Regional, Minister, Otubour Gyan Kwasi, noted that Ghanaians would do themselves a great disservice if they fail to retain the President in power to continue with implementing his policies and programmes aim at developing Ghana to an appreciable level.
“President Mahama’s issue is simple…his is an endorsement. It was in this house that we predicted your victory in the 2012 election, and we told you that when you are sworn in, you shouldn’t forget us. So if you want another four years, we fully endorse you and will support your campaign. We’ve gotten our fair share of the projects you’re undertaking. We had issues with the terrible state of the Nsawam-Aburi road, we cried over this road and you’ve had it fixed.”
He had added: “I made a statement at the Aburi Gardens sometime back but it was misconstrued that I had accused you of not being able to fulfill your promises, which in actual fact wasn’t correct. I was rather referring to your ministers, criticizing them for failing to make follow ups and ensure that promises you make are implemented. I have no problem with you… I say I endorse you today. The sort of work you’ve done has been acknowledged by all. That earlier statement I made has been confirmed now, if Minister were doing what they are expected of, Ghanaians will not wait until now to know what you’ve done in four years, it would have been seen long ago. Now, all the criticisms of you not performing made in the media by your critics are being countered by pictures of massive infrastructure shown on television. So you can boast of all these great things and you sit idle and allow your opponents to run you down.”
Spokesperson of Nana Akufo-Addo, had claimed that Mr. Naabu was offered a brand new V6 Mitsubishi, a brand New V8 Land Cruiser and GHc 3.3 million to resign from the NPP and paint the NPP Flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo as a dictator and damage him “beyond electability.”
Mustapha Hamid, addressing a press conference today, said NDC that “President Mahama and his people have not relented in their evil ways and means to use our own people to work against the NPP.”
According to Mr. Hamid, Bugri Naabu was invited to meet President Mahama in a meeting set up by Ibrahim Mahama and one Mohammed Awal after six months of trying.
“Around the same time, Ibrahim Mahama had tried to convince Bugri with money to leave the NPP to become a chief after Daniel Bugri Naabu’s uncle died, but Bugri refused,” he added. “According to the President, Bugri should paint Akufo-Addo as a rabid anti-northern person who could never be trusted to advance the people of the north… he was supposed to say that Akufo-Addo was knocking the head of one northerner against the other.”
According to Mr. Hamid, they [NDC], were going to give Mr. Naabu a brand new V6 Mitsubishi, a brand New V8 Land Cruiser, GHc 3.3 million, and on the spot they brought Mr. Naabu GHc 500,000 in GHc 50 notes. Mr. Naabu then went to the Abbosey Okai branch of the Prudential Bank the next day [Saturday] and deposited the GHc 500,000 in his account, Mr. Hamid narrated.
The NDC later fulfilled the promise of the Mitsubishi which was delivered to the Mr. Naabu on November 2 and Mr. Hamid showcased the documents of the Mitsubishi V6 to journalists present which indicated the change in ownership.
Mr. Hamid, also claimed that the vehicle was imported in August 2016 by a firm called Marlin Investments Company limited the NPP’s checks at the Registrar General’s Department indicated that the two of the company’s Directors are Hawa Mahama, sister of President Mahama and Frank Nuhu Alormasor, President Mahama’s personal assistant. This claim had been disputed by Hawa.
