On the authority of President John Dramani Mahama, the Minister for Transport, Mrs. Dzifa Attivor, has with immediate effect dissolved the board of the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL).
A press statement from the Flagstaff House copied The Herald yesterday, said a list of names for the reconstituting of the Board and Management of the Company is currently before the Council of State as required by law and would be announced shortly.
The dissolved board through its Chairman, Kuntu Blankson, this week said the Managing Director of the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL), Mrs. Doreen Owusu Fianko, has been sacked.
The Board Chairman, Kuntu Blankson, announced this on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme, last Monday.
Mrs. Owusu Fianko has been asked to handover to her Deputy by Friday September 13, 2013.
He said the board was yet to inform President John Mahama of the decision.
But Mrs. Fianko has expressed shock at the news of her dismissal.
According to her, she is still at post and has not received any formal letter from the board.
Meanwhile, David Annan, a member of the board said Mrs. Owusu Fianko’s dismissal was a majority decision.
He described her dismissal as unfortunate because according to him, the board did not give her the opportunity to respond to the allegations leveled against her which forms the basis of her dismissal.
David Annan added “I did not approve the resignations on legal grounds”.
It is unclear whether the marching orders given the Managing Director GACL by the dissolved board, is still valid.
