L’Oreal West Africa, a subsidiary of the world’s leading beauty company, L’Oreal in Ghana, has donated an ultramodern antenatal building to the Abokobi Health Centre, under the Ga-East Municipal Assembly in the Greater Accra Region.

The multi-purpose facility, which is fully equipped with set of computers and furniture, as well as L’Oréal products, will be used for providing antenatal counseling for the women in the community and also community health communication unit.

The structure which is designed to accommodate about 120 people, was commissioned on Monday, July 27, on the company’s Citizen’s Day, as part of L’Oreal’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).

L’Oreal’s Citizen’s Day, is a day set aside annually, where the company’s employees in all its 130 countries where it operates, undertake activities aimed at giving back to the community.

Speaking at the donation ceremony, the Managing Director of L’Oréal West Africa, Idorenyen Enang stated that, “L’Oréal has a strong focus on corporate social responsibility, so we are excited to begin this project, and as we go on we want to measure progress and move the needle into other forms of empowerment for this community”.

He indicated that, the move by the company “is not only going to end with health, we’ll be looking at other economic activities as well where we can help the women grow and get better for themselves and their families.”

The Director of Health Services at Ga East, Dr Julius Dadebo on his part, welcomed the laudable contribution of L’Oréal West Africa towards the Abokobi Health Centre’s maternal healthcare.

Dr. Dadebo, expressed hope that, the presence of the facility would limit the need for women to travel long distances to seek care for maternal health issues.

He was optimistic that, “If you are able to counsel women, they have no option but to visit the facility” adding “now women in the community can get the services they needed.”

After a short ceremony to officially present the facility, staff of L’Oréal West Africa, spent the day doing a cleaning up exercise in the surroundings of the Health Centre.
