A List Of Things Nana Addo Cares To Know About

In the six months that Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, was away holidaying in the United Kingdom (UK), a lot happened to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and Ghana that required his knowing and possibly action.

Interestingly, the only thing that caught his attention and the attention of his office was to issue a statement to deny a story by the Al-haj Newspaper that claimed the old man was not going to run for President in 2016, instead it was going to be Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

As to what happened to the country, I guess he is not obliged in any way to make it his cup of tea, but as to what happened in his party, it was imperative that he showed concern, more especially when a lot that went on revolved around him. One day, and that is sooner, I will be contemplating the NPP, without Nana Addo. What the future of that political tradition will be and the actors therein.

Below is a few of the things I will want to hear the old man either talk about or take action on.

Komla Dumor, an iconic figure in the media died sadly on January 18 in his home in London. The President John Dramani Mahama, while in UK, took time off his busy schedule to visit the immediate family and friends of the former Super Morning Show host on Joy FM and the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) journalist Focus on Africa presenter, who had gone there to bring his body home for burial.

The President went there to commensurate with them and told them that the country and indeed the world, has lost one of its finest broadcast journalist and that their loss was our loss. He also assured them of Government’s support to ensure that Komla was giving a befitting burial, which did happen.

Nana Akufo-Addo, who had been in the UK, long before President Mahama, failed to show up at the house of Komla Dumor, to also show solidarity and share in the loss of the family. Knowing Nana Addo and his happy-go aides, pictures of such a meeting or visit, if indeed did happen would have been splashed on social media and trust Daily Guide and other Newspapers to have picked it up.

As far as my memory serves me right, in the run up to the 2000 presidential and parliamentary elections, when Komla Dumor used to host the Super Morning Show, Nana Addo was one of the few privileged politicians who had unfettered access to that programme.

When Komla Dumor begun the crusade on the wanton dissipation of State Resources at the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SNNIT), Nana was one of the voices that constantly spoke on the show and even opted to provide security for Komla Dumor.

For some reasons, Nana Addo failed to show up at his funeral. Is this the sort of man Ghanaians want for a President?

Ideally, what happens in NPP is really none of my business, but somebody with such a large following in the party like Nana Addo must be concern. Jake Obetsebi Lamptey, the Chairman of the party and Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyepong, threw caution to the wind, when they engaged in accusations and counter accusations. Ken accused his party Chairman of stealing campaign cash and Motorbikes meant for the 2012 campaign.

Jake’s defense was insults, which was spearheaded by his aide, who has a tongue of a whore.

Your campaign manager for election 2008, Dr. Konadu Apraku, stirred the hornets’ nest when he suggested in Kumasi, at a meeting with the tertiary students wing of your party (TESCON) that you were a bad candidate. He suggested that when NPP wants to win the 2016 elections, they should begin by changing you as you were a bad product. The hawks in the party, who think they love the party than the founding fathers descended heavily on Dr. Apraku, calling him names. This apparent and clear violation of one’s freedom of speech did not get your attention.

You were silent and so was your office. What saddens me is that among your attributes touted by your supporters and overzealous followers is that you fought for the restoration of democracy and you will defend the violation of one’s human right no matter who he or she is.

The women’s wing of your party was not left out of the lawlessness and intolerance that seems to characterize the party, since you became it leader.

Otiko Afisa Djaba, the women’s organizer and her deputy, Tina Mensah, also decided to slug it out in the media. It was a free for all insults and accusations, with the Otiko making a bizarre allegation that the inability of the party to win the 2012 elections was because of spies and witches. This is bizarre to say the least.

The Executives of the party presented a Congress budget to the National Executive Council (NEC). It was later to be discovered that the budget was bloated. Another proposal was for the party to hold a regional Congress, instead of a one stop Congress that will afford the contestants the opportunity to address and convince Delegates before voting begins. The elders and Members of Parliament (MP) on the Minority side came to the rescue of the party and sanity was restored.

It is said that nature abhors vacuum, the absence and the apparent silence of Nana Addo on many issues, including Executives of the party openly declaring their support for him. If Nana Addo is anywhere near the leader that we are made to believe, I want to hear him say something about what happened whilst, he was away cooling off in UK and seeking the face of God.

It is my fervent hope and prayer that God told him not contest in 2016.

Welcome home.
