The Liberty Intelligence Our Nation Safety (LIONS) Club International, a humanitarian organization, has revealed that it has earmarked a whopping one hundred and fifty thousand Dollars (USD 150,000) to support orphans, who lost their parents as a result of the outbreak of Ebola in the countries hit by the outbreak.
According to the club, the funds to support the orphans, was made available to the club by Medico France, a French Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) that provides medical support and financial assistance to countries in need of assistance.
Mrs Diamilatou Aka-Anghui, the Governor of District 403-A2 LIONS Club, joined by Mr Kofi Tobias Bruce, the First Vice District Governor, and Gloria Esi Lassey, a past District Governor of the club, announced the support for the Ebola orphans at the Second Cabinet Meeting of the Executives of the club in Accra.
She explained that, the purpose for the Cabinet meeting was to take stock and draw up new initiatives for humanitarian activities in the countries under the district.
She mentioned that the 403-A2 district is made up of Ghana, Liberia, Ivory Coast and Sierra Leone.
She noted that the main aim of the club, is to alleviate poverty, illiteracy and ensure the general well being of the people in the countries forming the district.
Mrs Aka- Anghui, noted that the support for the Ebola orphans, would be rolled out by the middle of the year to assist the children left behind as a result of the outbreak of the disease in that region.
She said, the club as part of its humanitarian activities and through the personal contribution of individual members; the club has been able to do a lot in relation to the correction of the sight of Ghanaians over the years.
She further added the club is assisting the premier hospital, Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital to put up an ultra-modern eye clinic to cater for the eye needs of the general public.
She took the opportunity to commended Ghanaians for the massive show of hospitality and good governance.
She said, Ghana is gradually making gains in its democratic dispensation
