NPP Parliamentary Aspirant Dragged Before Kumasi Police
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ashanti Region, has hatched a diabolic plan to assassinate its outgoing Member of Parliament (MP) for the Nhyiaso Constituency, Dr. Richard Winfred Anane, a member of the party, has shockingly revealed.
Reliable information in the hands of The Herald, indicate that Dr. Anane’s assassination, will be blamed on the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), even though the governing party, does not have any friction whatsoever with the medical doctor turned politician.
According to a member of the party in the region, Esther Agyeman, who leaked the information on Accra-based Ahotor FM last week, the MP, has since reported the issues to the Kumasi Central Police Station for investigation.
Details of the assassination according to Esther, was relayed to the former President, John Agyekum Kufuor, by the NPP Parliamentary Candidate for the Nhyiaso Constituency, Kennedy Kankam.
Mr. Kankam, who portrayed himself as informant wanting to be regarded as an innocent person who was concerned about the life of his former boss, has since been invited by the police, together with the NPP’s former regional chairman, Yaw Amankwah, for interrogation.
Courtesy Nana Akufo-Addo, the experienced medical doctor was kicked out of parliament, after 12 years of dedicated service. He had separately also served in the Kufuor government as Minister of Health, as well as Road and Transport.
Narrating the devilish plan on the radio station, Esther said, Kennedy, had told ex-President Kufuor that the MP was to be “killed like the way the MP for Abuakwa North, J.B Danquah was murdered at his home” at Shiashi in Accra in February, this year, and that of the party’s Upper East Regional chairman, Adams Mahama, who was killed through acid attacked in May, last year as a results of infighting within the NPP.
She said, the murder plot , which was to leave no traces to the NPP was to begin with information that, the NDC was planning with a radio presenters in the region to announce that, Dr. Anane, has thrown his weight behind the NDC’s John Dramani Mahama and the governing party’s Nhyiaso
parliamentary candidate, Dr. Samuel Sarpong.
According to Esther, the announcement will force the MP to come out to debunk endorsing President Mahama and Dr. Samuel Sarpong, and immediately, assassins will be sent to kill him, and it will be portrayed as though, it is the NDC, which is not happy with the former Health Minister, therefore, killed him.
It is not clear, what pushed Kennedy to let the cat out of the bag, but the former president, according to Madam Esther did not take the issue lightly, hence the decision to inform Dr. Anane and further ask him to report to the Kumasi police, leading to invitation of Kennedy Kankam.
Also in the known of the murder plot, is former Chief of Staff, Kwadwo Mpiani, and he also encourage Dr. Anane to report the matter to the police.
Similar to what was to befall Dr. Ananae, the NDC was saved by the Ashanti Regional police, after the NPP’s regional chairman, attempted to frame up
the governing party in a fake thump-printed ballot papers drama.
Early Monday morning, the Police swopped on an obscured hotel, Madison Lodge at TUC in Kumasi, to impound three hefty bags stocked full with ballot papers which were already thump printed mischievously for the president, John Dramani Mahama. NPP’s regional chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako
(Wontumi) was responsible for hinting the Police about this hideout but the Regional Police Commander, Kofi Boakye in a media interview said the ballot papers were fake. The police said, the papers did not contain serial numbers, some of the prints were fingerprints rather than thumbprints and finally, the ink used was ordinary ink not a special ink used by the Electoral Commission (EC).
Commenting on the issue in the Ashanti Region, while on an inspection tour of the on-going ultra-modern Kajetia Market, President John Mahama said, the plan was an attempt by the NPP to incite their supporters against a possible defeat after today’s poll.
According to him, the NPP, is resorting to several means to create the impression that the only way the governing party could win the elections, was through rigging.
“They have been at this game since the inception of the electioneering [period]. They keep accusing the EC for plotting to steal the vote for me, but I know it is just to create the impression that the NDC is going to rig the elections.
In spite of all that, God keeps exposing them. Look at what they did today, they wanted to create the scene as though, the NDC is thumb printing ballot papers but it turned out to be their own machination. I know God is alive and He is watching all these actions.
God is not asleep”, he said.
Hours after the incident occurred, the said hotel issued a statement, accusing an aide to chairman Wontumi, who lodged in the said hotel days before
The hotel Manager said “On Saturday, December 3 at 7:20PM, a gentleman by name Andy Owusu, who is a known face in Kumasi and special Assistant to Chairman Wontumi, booked three rooms, he said it was meant for some investor of his business.
He dropped 2 bags and stayed in the room for 2 hours with a fair lady. Chairman Wontumi, on Sunday led Police men and media to our hotel premises to the very room his assistant booked, only to be told they were thumb printed ballot”. The hotel assured, they were ready to cooperate with the police to unravel the perpetuators of the incident.
The Herald was told that, had Chairman Wontumi’s plot succeeded in Kumasi, the NPP, would flood the whole country with thump-printed ballots papers to give the impression that the NDC was up to something sinister to win the today’s election.
