Residents in the Krobo area, are expressing worry over the slow pace and seemingly abandonment of work on the Somanya-Odumase-Kpong highway, which started since 2013 and is currently nowhere near completion.
They are also angry over government’s latest decision to re-award the 2.9 km Hohoe town roads to the same contractor working on their roads (First Sky Limited), when he has not yet completed work on the road stretch.
This was contained in the statement issued by the residents.
“This they say”, said the statement has made the contractor to suspend working on the road network since they are currently working on their new contract on the Hohoe town roads”.
The residents are angry that looking at the critical stage that the road construction works have reached, and the unbearable dusts which have filled the streets and their homes, and accidents which are being caused on the road everyday due to potholes, they expected government to provide all the logistics and materials to the
contractor to complete the work on time.
They further said that they thought the president’s statement he made in Parliament during the State of the Nation address in February that work is progressing steadily on the road network, though it is not true, will serve as a wake-up call to the authorities to fast-track their activities for work on the roads to resume speedily. They however said it came as a shock and disappointment to them to learn that they now have to wait forever, since the contractor has now been given a different contract somewhere and he has deserted (suspended) work on the road stretch.
They are consequently asking government to bring back the contractor (First Sky Ltd) or re-award the contract to a new contractor by the end of this month (March 2016) or engage in series of aggressive but legal protests to press home their demands.
